We are using Paycom to do our payroll and need to import an IIF file to record the transaction. The problem arises because I also need to import the service Items associated. I understand the Journal Entry template doesn't allow for a service Item to be imported but I have seen a screenshot showing that it's possible. It seems to import it on the back end so you can see it in the transaction journal. Has anyone successfully imported an IFF for a journal entry with ITEM column? Using QB Enterprise
I'm glad to see you here, @JLB16. Let me provide you with a few details about the service item in QuickBooks Desktop.
This IIF is for importing a general journal into a new QuickBooks data file. If the accounts aren't already set up, the information needed is at the beginning of the file. The class, if relevant, will be listed next, followed by the client, vendor, and other names. These are required for the proper setup of the lists. Moreover, an unidentified item will be imported as a service item by default.
Overall, you can:
Furthermore, QuickBooks Desktop makes it simple to import and export IIF files by automatically formatting them. However, if you haven't worked with delimited text files before, creating. IIF files from scratch or adapting data from another program can be tricky. Unless you have a large quantity of data to import, this makes it faster and easier to enter the data directly into QuickBooks Desktop.
Additionally, see this article for more information about the IIF import and export limitations in QuickBooks Desktop.
Keep me in the loop if you have other concerns or questions about managing data. I would love to help! Have a pleasant day ahead!
Thank you for the response but I do not believe this addresses my issue. I have successfully imported an IIF for a General Journal (see screenshot of IFF layout). What I am trying to do is add a column for the Service Item. I understand you can't see this when viewing the Journal Entry, but can see it when you view the transaction journal. It appears to be possible as I have seen a screen shot of the results (see transaction Journal screenshot). I am trying to determine how to format my IIF to allow a successful import of the Item column.
Thanks for reaching back out, @JLB16.

Is there an IT expert within QuickBooks who knows how to format a file that would be accepted by Quickbooks?
Thank you for the prompt response, @JLB16.
I can see how important it is to find an IT expert to help you format your Intuit Interchange Format (IIF) file for QuickBooks. I'm here to clarify things for you.
We're unable to suggest a specific IT expert here in the Community. You can find someone outside of QuickBooks instead.
I can see that my peer, MadelynC, included a great resource above to learn more about the IIF files. Feel free to check them out.
Additionally, I'm adding this article in case you need to access reports in the future. This contains the description of each report and the information you can get: Run payroll reports.
