Upgrading QB Desktop Pro Payroll 2021 to 2022

I am having the same issue.  I upgraded three weeks ago using a third party app for my time sheet entry.  My import to QBD still works but the export of customers and item list does not work anymore as it used the "export timer lists" feature which I of course just discovered today!  I also noticed that the "export to ProSeries" feature is gone too...I use that a lot during tax season.  When I discussed with QB support, first she didn't know that the feature was removed and then her solution was to refer me to QB Time to get the feature back.  I then talked to QB Time support and they didn't know what she was talking about and that I should purchase QB Time use that software and import into QBD.  All total of 2.5 hours of wasted time and now I have to restore my 2021 backup and reenter three weeks of information to get the feature back.

I've been sending something to the development team in the manner recommended almost daily regarding the missing Import Timer Activities and Export Timer List issue.  No response nor acknowledgement yet.  Is there really someone at the other end of this message that truly cares, or is everyone just stuck on making a buck at the expense of loyal customers?

This still does not address "Click on this link in the future to check for the feedback submitted. The more votes it will have, the better."

We do appreciate the feedback, @Blaes.

I can shed some light on this.  I can assure you that, there are people on the other end that do look at these requests. As you can imagine, we receive a ton of product suggestions and feedback so we're not able to respond individually to everyone.  We do prioritize high traffic requests and make note of all feedback for future improvements.

Again, thank you for taking the time to let us know what is important to you as a customer! I'm here for any other questions you may have.

Jessica-

The issue here is we are not asking for something extra.  This is a feature that has been included in all the previous versions that has been taken away.  This is extremely frustrating and no documentation or answers from Intuit if it a permanent terminated feature.  As @Blaes has indicated, many use this feature to export/import payroll.  Payroll is an extremely time sensitive issue.  Any feedback would be appreciated as to whether this is permanent.  Thank you.

Hi mkscpa!

I understand that you want to continue using the QuickBooks ProTimer. Currently, we're unable to verify if this is permanent termination or temporary.

It's best to send feedback about this to our developers to let them know that you need the said feature.

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Send Feedback Online.
  2. Click Product Suggestion.
  3. Choose a feedback type and product area on the QuickBooks Feedback window.
  4. Enter your suggestion or feedback, name, and email address (optional).
  5. Select the Send Feedback button.

You can check this link: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop. This will show you more info on what are the other data you can export and import into QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep on posting here if you have other concerns. Take care!

AlexV-

It is not the QuickBooks ProTimer that we are using it is the export feature of the timer lists.  The export of this iif file feeds the customers and payroll items to a third party time sheet program.  This iif file is imported each time a new customer is added or payroll item changed.  This feature was available in QB 2021 but not when I upgraded to QB 2022 (see screen shots from both programs).  This is not listed as a discontinued feature of 2022.  I will need to determine by end of week whether I will be re-creating three weeks of work in my old back up file and going back to 2021 or find another time sheet alternative.  I can't believe the developers can't answer if this is a temporary or permanent terminated feature.  Thanks for any information you can provide.

Dear Santa:

All I want for Christmas is my Quickbooks Timer reinstated in Desktop 2022

I am chiming in on the desire to be notified if this important feature (importing/exporting iif, AKA timer, files) is discontinued in 2022. If it is, users should have been notified in advance, not tripping over a workflow issue on the fly. Many of your users use the timer functions as part of payroll and customer billing record keeping. Please bring it back or notify well in advance of its discontinuance.

Sheesh. Been using QuickBooks for a few DECADES, may now look at converting to other bookkeeping solutions based on the lack of support!

I have done as suggested and submitted a request using the Desktop Help option, Submit Feedback Online.

I look forward to the reinstatement of this important feature or, at least, notification that it has been permanently deleted. In the meantime, looking for workaround solutions for the data entry task of moving data from QB Pro Timer to QB Desktop 2022.

Does anyone have some suggestions?

Thanks for sending us your feedback, GM30.

We closely monitor your suggestions and take them into consideration when prioritizing feature development. While we're unable to directly recommend what app to use, you can visit our QuickBooks Desktop App Market to search for an application that can import your time activities.

Before subscribing to any service, I suggest reading some reviews online or trying their trial options available to ensure that you'll find all of the features you need.

In addition, here's a reference that you can browse to learn what are the things that you import or export in the program: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Just drop me a comment below if you have any other questions and I'll get back to you as quickly as possible.

@GM30

Explore the importer tools as I mentioned in the earlier post.

In my case, I was still able to import my time into QBD as my third party app creates it's own iif file so that was still working.  What I wasn't able to do was to export my customer and item list (when updated for new clients or items) and import in my third party app.  After paying my third party app developer and his testing, I am able to pick the generic export lists, check the customer and item lists and then name the file "timerlistexport.iif" to accomodate the devloper's original use of the file the old feature used to create.  Maybe this approach will help someone depending upon what you are using that needs this particular file import/export.  As far as apps, when I called customer service they recommended purchasing QuickBooks Time.  Which is another Intuit product with a per user fee...

I don't have time to explore all these options...I just want to keep using the quick and easy Quickbooks Pro Timer that I've been using for the past 25 years.  It's gone and the only reason I can see for removing it is to get me to subscribe to more Intuit services.  It's making me ANGRY!!!

I have a suggestion:  PUT IT BACK!

It's as simple as that...

Just today I received a letter from Quickbooks:

"See what's new in Quickbooks Desktop 2022...You asked, we listened.  Businesses want to do more and do it faster.  Quickbooks Desktop 2022 gives you the tools to complete your accounting tasks quicker than ever before with money mangement, data sync, and speed improvements.  Accomplish more, faster."

That's a load of BS.  The only bottom line Intuit is interested in is Intuit's.  Just another greedy corporation.  Every two weeks I do payroll and billing.  What took me less than an hour now takes me 4 or 5.  That's NOT faster.  Why do they not see that they cripple businesses with their greed for more subscription services?

I am creating my own solutions to this problem of the disappearance of QuickBooks Pro Timer import and export commands...and it's a shame having to do this after over 25 years with Quickbooks Desktop.  It's obvious I am being ignored and this will not change.  My solution is to make my employees "contract employees", move to a simpler software solution and drop all my expensive employee payroll subscriptions with Intuit.  Thanks for nothing, Intuit and your uncaring developers.  You are NOT making things easier for small businesses during a pandemic, just the opposite, only to sell more subscription services.

Agree! trying to process payroll today and just discovered this! I have been using quickbooks since it was first invented and I am not happy!

This was a very bad decision on the part of Intuit to discontinue an option with absolutely no warning to your customers. I have been using QB since it was invented and now I am desperately trying to figure out how to get payroll processed without the tools to do so. I am so incredibly angry, I will be looking for other software options unless someone from QB can contact me immediately and ensure me that this option will be back before I process payroll again. Everyone is so busy right now, this is a bad time to take away options.

I really wish I had read this discussion before I upgraded my software. I am so frustrated about this change, I will be looking for new software. Have you figured out a fix?

So I bit the bullet and signed up for Time (Formerly Tsheets).

I should have dug into the reviews deeper.  There were lots of great reviews for Tsheets, but then Intuit did it again, they messed around with a good thing and turned it into garbage.  Check out these reviews on the Google Play Store (where you install the app on your phone).  They are the most recent reviews, mostly from users (employees) that are not happy:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tsheets.android.hammerhead&hl=en_US&gl=US&showAllR...

I did the 30 day free trial, spent a full day with employees testing it, and dropped it like a hot rock.  It was way too complex, required a log in way too frequently, did not sync with QBDesktop, and all the other issues you will read about in the linked reviews above.  I'm still waiting for QBTimer to be reinstated, and am back to manually entering time for my employees.  STAY AWAY FROM TIME!

@joanna123

Can you share any more detail on what particular payroll item you had to add? Where to find it in the iif?

Anything?

Thanks in advance.

Bill
