Why does QuickBooks tell me I need rights that don't exist?

Why does QuickBooks put up a message referring to rights that don't exist?

Print access isn't an action that is available:

Why does QuickBooks tell me I need rights that don't exist?

Greetings, BigRedConsulting.

Just to give me a better idea on what's going on, can you tell me what you did when you encountered that message? This way, I'll be able to check what tripped the prompt or see if there are any reported cases about this.

Looking forward to your reply. If you have any other concerns about QuickBooks Desktop you'd like me to address, let me know. I'll help in any way I can.

It really doesn't matter what I did.  The issue is that QuickBooks puts up a message advising that I should take an action that doesn't exist. You can have Product Development search for the message and figure out what triggers it.

In any case, what I did was pay bills using the credit card option and then try to print the payment voucher.

Sorry for out of topic. We thought you have a direct access to their P&D team. cmiiw.

From your screenshot, it shows you only have partial access.  Can you not just click "Full" access and make sure the print box is checked?

Nope. The print box remains disabled, which is QB's way of saying there is no such right for the category.  You'll see this throughout the preferences, where a specific right doesn't exist or make sense.

For example, the "Transfer Funds" category doesn't have Print or View Balance rights, because there's nothing to print and no balance to view. Similarly, the Company | Company Information category doesn't have rights to Create or Delete, because there's nothing to create or delete.

Why does QuickBooks tell me I need rights that don't exist?

Hello again, BigRedConsulting.

I tinkered around the user rights and see what's going on and what triggered the prompt message.

The message appears if you do not fully select all options under the Credit Card Charges settings. I'm able to test it out with two users (Admin and a test user with all access rights enabled).

Here are my documentations:

This appears to be an odd behavior since the option to print credit card charges is non-existent. However, selecting all permission options under the user settings let you print the voucher normally.

I took the initiative to raise and passed this along to the engineering team. Though if you haven't done it already, you can also submit a bug report which is sent directly to the engineering team for review.

Click on the Help menu, hover on Send Feedback Online, then select Bug Report.

I appreciate your time in letting us know about this. We'll get it into the right hands for investigation.

@jamespaul

Your answers don't answer my question: Why does QB put up a message that insists I need print rights when no such rights exist?

Also, I should not have to grant access to a user to modify or delete credit card transactions in order to print the voucher of a credit card bill payment. Printing the voucher doesn't do either of those things. Your solution opens up a security hole, because now the AP clerk has to have full rights to Credit Cards on order to print bill payments. That should not be required (it isn't required for printing check bill payment vouchers.)

Good afternoon @BigRedConsulting . Thank you again for sharing the details so that we could reproduce this and share it with the engineering team for review. We'll need to conduct a more thorough investigation to ensure this is working as intended, but I'll make sure to come back with any insights I can share when I hear more from them.
