Will QB have the Colorado Family and Medical Leave Insurance payroll deduction available Jan 1, 2023?

Employers are required to deduct 0.45% from employees and pay 0.45% out of pocket for this new program. How can we do this through QB payroll?

Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully they will get it figured out in the next couple weeks so we can comply with the new law. Will it be done automatically or will QB tell us how to enable it once available?

Hello there, @josey120, @LLCO, and @angelarenee31.

At this time, setting up a new payroll item for Colorado Paid Family Medical Leave Program is unavailable. QuickBooks is currently adding a solution to handle the unique taxation requirements. Intuit will send an email as soon as the instructions to set it up be available.

Hello, I understand QB will be getting this integrated before the new year.   Should we still register our company with the Colorado Dept of Labor & Employment (CDLE) or will QB do this on our behalf?   We've been getting emails from CDLE requesting we register.   However it also states: "If you work with a third party administrator (TPA) who will be supporting your business with your FAMLI obligations, please talk with your TPA before you register. Many TPAs will be registering on behalf of the employers they serve. If you happen to register before your TPA registers on your behalf, your TPA will be able to connect the two accounts for you."

Hello, MishaAnn and Aspect.

I'll share more details regarding the newly announced payroll deduction for Colorado Family and Medical Leave Insurance. We'll always provide important payroll news and alerts to our customers.

Our payroll compliance team is now working on adding these additional tax items, which will take effect on January 1, 2023. All QuickBooks Online and Desktop Payroll subscribers will soon get email alerts with step-by-step instructions for setting the Colorado Paid Family Leave tax details in payroll.

You should register on the CO FAMLI website in advance to get your account number, as you'll need it to set up this new payroll item. If you want to know who is paying and filling your payroll taxes and forms, I recommend going to the Payroll settings to see the information.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Settings or Gear icon.
  2. Select Payroll settings.
  3. Go to the Taxes and forms section.
  4. From there, you can review who is paying and filling.
  5. Choose the Edit icon to make some changes.

For more details, please visit the following links below:

Additionally, QuickBooks hosted a webinar last December 09 with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) and QuickBooks Payroll Compliance Team. You can access the webinar through this page in case you missed it: Recording of the webinar.

If you have further questions about the new payroll updates, let us know. We're always here to help you.

I watched the video. I am confused.  If a company uses QBO for payroll, and Intuit takes care of all other tax payments and filings, the Company itself needs to register with CO FAMLI to receive an account number?  For Desktop payroll the video indicated that Intuit was taking care of this.  Why would Intuit not take care of this for Online payroll.  Please advise.

Hi there, stephenpeterson.

Our QuickBooks Online Payroll Team is still working on adding the deduction to the payroll. Hence, I'm unable to provide updates about the support in tax payments and filings for the Colorado Paid Family Medical Leave Program.

You may want to keep an eye on this link to see what's coming: Payroll updates. It contains information on new taxes, state rate issues, and more.

About the registration, I suggest contacting your state. They can provide instructions about this and how to get the account number.

If you have other payroll concerns, don't hesitate to create a new post. I'm here to take care of your queries @stephenpeterson.

Thank you for your answer, but I am still confused on whether I should enroll in FAMLI since I use Online QB for payroll and pay Intuit to process all tax payments and reporting.   January 1 is almost here and I do not want to not enroll or be penalized for late enrollment.   I believe since Intuit is our Third Party Administrator they should be doing this.  Please clarify.

It gets worse. Not only is it not fully functional yet, as of now you will be unable to pay any Colorado employee on or after January 1 2023. See error message in screenshot that occurs for any pay date on or after January 1 2023.

When can we expect this issue to be corrected?

The update was added for the CO-Paid Fam Med Leave Colorado, but when I did the update it added 'liability adjust' to all of my employees.  Why did it do this and this doesn't seem right.  Please let us know in detail why this happens with the update and if it is correct or needs to be deleted.

I have done the update in payroll for the new CO Family and Medical Leave program.  One the update was done it added 'liability adjust' to all of my employees.  Why did it do this as it doesn't seem right.

Please let us know in detail if this is correct or if it needs to be deleted.

I have the same issue with the liability adjustment entries but only on employees that have been hired in 2021 and 2022.

I noticed the same thing.  Is this correct???  Seems odd it was added to anything before 2023 when the tax begins.
