Reclassifying some employee wages to COGS

Hi,

I have always put all employee wages and salaries into a single Payroll Expense account. For better financial reporting, I would like to go back several years and reclassify field techs into a separate COGS payroll account. Is there an easy way to do this or would I have to go into each paycheck and reassign the account (if that is that even possible)?

I'm using Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2018 and Quickbooks Assisted Payroll.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for telling me you're using Assisted Payroll, thedjmiked.

You'll have to get in touch with our payroll specialists, since, we're doing the payroll for you. A phone agent will help you reclassify the employees' wages.

Here's how you can contact them:

  1. Navigate to our website: https://payroll.intuit.com/support/contact/.
  2. Click the Assisted button.
  3. Choose Payroll.
  4. Click View Contact Info

Reclassifying some employee wages to COGS

"I would like to go back several years and reclassify field techs into a separate COGS payroll account."

Have you looked at the Tax Filings, to see how this was reported?

"would I have to go into each paycheck and reassign the account (if that is that even possible)?"

The Payroll items control the flow of the data to the accounts. First, make sure the historic changes are not going to result in a change to tax filings, requiring amended reporting. Don't make historic changes so casually.
