Run payroll not working all set up but error

Hello tony132!

It seems that you recently applied for the direct deposit. I'm here to help you.

Direct deposit is a service that allows you to pay your employees electronically. You won't be able to process direct deposit payroll if the said service is not yet activated. Although you submitted the requirements, it'll take two to three business days to confirm.

Please follow these steps on how to check the direct deposit application status:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Payroll Settings.
  2. Select Company under Bank Accounts.
  3. You'll see either of these statuses:
    • Connected/Active: Bank account details connected to send payroll with QuickBooks Online and option to Update it.
    • Pending: "We're getting your bank account ready." Information about test transactions will also show.
    • Waiting for verification: You have the option to enter a test transaction.
    • Failed: "Update your bank account. We couldn't verify this bank account."

If the direct deposit is not yet activated, you'll want to temporarily create a manual check. Here's the article you'll want to review: Get started with payroll. This includes detailed info on how to set up your account and how to process payroll.

It could also be that the reason for this is due to the browser you're using. You'll want to use an incognito window and run payroll from there.

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P

It'd also be best if you'll clear the cache to fix errors because of the accumulated temporary internet files. Then, make sure to use an up-to-date browser.

If the same thing happens, please reach out to our Payroll Experts so they can further investigate it:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon and enter Talk to a human (then type it again when prompted).
  2. When asked by the bot, enter "Run payroll".
  3. Select I still need a human, then proceed with Contact us or Get help from a human.
  4. Choose either Chat or Callback.

If you need payroll reports, here's an article for you: Run payroll reports in QuickBooks Online.

I'm looking forward to assisting you again. Take care always!

Run payroll not working all set up but error

In order to troubleshoot and fix a "Payroll Update Not Working" issue, a methodical approach is needed. Here is a process you can use to solve this problem:

  • Verify Network Connection:

Make sure your computer is plugged into an active and reliable internet connection. Updates may not download and install properly if there is a bad or erratic connection.

  • Check Payroll Software Version:

Use the most recent version of the payroll application, please. Incompatibilities or faults in out-of-date software could limit its functionality. Update the software to the most recent version offered by the vendor, if necessary.

  • Restart the Payroll Software:

Software bugs can occasionally be fixed by simply restarting the application. The payroll programme should be closed, given some time to pass, and then reopened.

  • Clear Cache and Temporary Files:
The update procedure could be hampered by accumulating cache and temporary files. Find the option to remove cache or temporary files within the software's settings or options menu. Retry the update after clearing these files.
  • Disable Antivirus or Firewall:

The update procedure could be hampered by accumulating cache and temporary files. Find the option to remove cache or temporary files within the software's settings or options menu. Retry the update after clearing these files.

  • Check Server Status:

Verify if the server hosting the payroll updates is functioning properly. Sometimes, server issues can lead to update failures. You can check the vendor's website or contact their support for information about server status.

  • Run as Administrator

Running the payroll software as an administrator can help ensure that it has the necessary permissions to download and install updates. Right-click on the software's icon and select "Run as administrator.":

  • Review Error Messages:

If you encounter any error messages during the update process, take note of them. These messages can provide valuable insights into the root cause of the issue and guide you towards a solution.

  • Contact Customer Support:

It's time to contact the vendor's customer service if you've attempted the aforementioned solutions and the problem still exists. Give them specific details about the problem, any error messages you came across, and the measures you took to troubleshoot. They can provide you with individualised advice and lead you through more difficult troubleshooting techniques.

  • Consider Professional Help:

If the issue remains unresolved, you might want to seek assistance from a professional IT technician or consultant who specializes in the payroll software you're using. They can delve deeper into the technical aspects and identify the underlying cause of the problem.

Before beginning any troubleshooting actions, always back up your payroll data to prevent data loss in the event that something goes wrong.
