Total gross wages report

How do I run a report to see how much I've paid myself for a specific time period? The company is a sole proprietor so I don't have any other employees. For that reason, I don't have payroll function set up.

Thanks in advance!

Total gross wages report

Welcome to the Community space, @JMC0606. I'm here to guide you in generating a report showing how much you've paid yourself in a specific period in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You can run a Transaction Detail by Account report if you have used the Owner's Draw account or any other specific accounts you used to pay yourself.

Here's how you can do it:

  1. Go to Reports and search for "Transaction Detail by Account."
  2. Select the report and change the Report period to Custom. Set the starting and ending dates for the period you want to show in the report.
  3. Choose between Cash and Accrual for the Accounting method. If you choose cash basis, only those transactions that have been sent or received will be displayed. On the other hand, the accrual basis shows transactions based on when they are recorded.
  4. Click on Customize, then go to Filter. In the Account dropdown, choose the accounts you used to pay yourself. You can further refine the report by editing the Filter.
  5. Once done, click on Run report.

You can also go to the Chart of Accounts list to see the amount you've paid to yourself. Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Chart of accounts.
  2. In the search bar, type the account name you used for the payment.
  3. Under the ACTION column, click on Run report. If you do not see the option, click on the dropdown and select it.
  4. Change the Report period, choose the Accounting method, and customize the report.
  5. Click Run report.

If you have used another method to record the payment, please provide more details and a screenshot. This will help us to understand your concern better.

Also, you can refer to this article on another way of paying a sole proprietor business owner in QBO: Set up and pay an owner's draw.

Once you have generated the report, you can export it to a spreadsheet to keep a record outside the program.
