Thanks for posting the Community space, @Theresa56.

Setting up time tracking and job costing in QuickBooks Desktop is quick and easy. Just follow the steps below to ensure it works on your end. Let me show you how.

  1. Select Edit, then Preferences.
  2. From the left menu, select Accounting.
  3. Select the Company Preferences tab.
  4. Make sure there is a checkmark in the Use class tracking box. (Note: If this is not marked then the options to Assign one class per Entire paycheck or Earnings item won't be available.
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. Go to the Edit menu at the top, and then select Preferences.
  7. Choose Payroll and Employees, and then tap the Company Preferences tab.
  8. Put a checkmark in the Job Costing, Class, and Item tracking for paycheck expenses box and select whether to track by Entire Paycheck or Earnings Item.
  9. Hit OK.

To set up time tracking, here's how:

  1. Sign in as the Admin. And be sure to be in Single-user Mode.
  2. Go to the Edit menu, then choose Preferences.
  3. In the Preferences window, select Time & Expenses.
  4. Select the Company Preferences tab.
  5. For the Do You Track Time? option, select Yes.
  6. In the First Day of Work Week drop-down list, choose the day on which you start tracking time each week. (Note: The day you choose affects all weekly timesheets. For example, if you choose Sunday, your timesheets begin with Sunday.)
  7. Click OK.

Also, you can open these articles below. It's a detailed guide on how you can properly assign expenses to jobs, run job costing reports, and print timesheets, so you can accurately track them.
