Unable to open a specific company's file

I recently updated to the Accountant's version and have been able to open all clients' company files with the same password as I did on the prior version, except for one client. I get a message that I'm using an incorrect password when it's never been different for this client in the past.

Unable to open a specific company's file

Hey there, @Rp58.

Let me help you fix this so you can open your client's company file.

It's possible that there's an issue with your company data password or the password vault has been corrupted. This is the reason why you're unable to access the account.

However, we can use the Reset Password tool to change the password and access the account. Here's how:

If you're using QuickBooks 2020:

  1. On the Company Login window, select I forgot my password.
  2. Click an email from the dropdown list, then Next. You’ll be emailed a token to reset your password.
  3. Enter the token you received. Please check your spam folder if you don't see your code in your inbox.

For QuickBooks 2019 and earlier:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop. At the login window, select I forgot my password.
  2. Fill out the information on the form.
  3. Click OK. If the info you entered is correct, you’ll get a code to the primary email listed in your CAMPS. Then, check your spam folder if you don't see your code in your inbox.
  4. QuickBooks will then guide you through creating a new admin password.

If the password reset doesn't work, double-check the info you entered. Or else, check for any typos and confirm the info matches with what's in CAMPS.

If you got an error or still need help resetting your password, try the Automated Password Reset tool.

Unable to open a specific company's file

I want to officially welcome you to the Community space, @sah1. Let me help you fix the error that your getting in opening your company file.

You'll need to make sure only one computer is hosting the company file, which is the standalone server. Please double-check the other computers connected to the network that doesn’t host your company file to make sure the Host Multi-User Access option is off. Let me show you how.

  1. Open QuickBooks on any workstations where you see H101, H303, or H505.
  2. Open the File menu and hover over Utilities.
  3. If you see the Host Multi-User Access option, don’t select it. Move on to the next workstation. This one isn’t causing the problem.
  4. If Stop Hosting Multi-User Access is an option, select it.
  5. Repeat these steps on all workstations where you see Error -6175,0.

Once done, proceed to your server and reset your hosting settings if you have the full version of QuickBooks Desktop installed.

  1. Open QuickBooks on your server computer.
  2. Open the File menu and hover over Utilities.
  3. If Host Multi-User Access is an option, select it. Repeat this process and select Stop Hosting Multi-User Access. This resets multi-user mode.
  4. Repeat the process one more time and select Host Multi-User Access.

In case you don't have the full version of QBDT installed on your server. This means you only have Database Server Manager on your server computer. Follow the steps to scan the folder holding your company file.

If you still see Error -6175,0, move on to Solution 2-3 in this article: How to fix Error 6175,0.

Also, there's a couple more pieces of information you may find insightful on hosting and multi-user mode in QuickBooks Desktop I'm sharing below:

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comment section down below. I'll be always around ready to help.
