Buy nowWhen clicking on "start unscheduled payroll" a pop-up appears about the new overtime tracking, when I go through the screens, I receive an "unrecoverable error". This has happened for other users too.
Hi there, flowerlover.
An unrecoverable error in QuickBooks Desktop often happens due to a damaged component or corrupted data.
Here are some steps to help fix these errors:
Let's start by ensuring that QuickBooks is updated to its latest release. Keeping your software up to date can fix known issues and improve performance.
Additionally, ensure to download the latest payroll tax table update. This ensures accuracy when calculating taxes and helps prevent potential errors in payroll processing. Regular updates are a simple yet essential step to keep your software running smoothly and error-free.
I'm also sharing these resources that contain information about common reasons and resolving unrecoverable errors:

Hello flowerlover,
I just want to share that you can also consider switching to Single-user Mode before processing payroll to prevent any unrecoverable errors. You can do this by navigating to the File menu and selecting Switch to Single-user Mode.
Let me know how this works for you.
This unrecoverable error when clicking Start Unscheduled Payroll is a known QuickBooks Desktop issue tied to the new overtime tracking prompt, not immediate file corruption. It’s usually triggered by a program glitch, payroll UI bug, or damaged payroll components, which is why multiple users see it at the same step. First fixes to try: update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release, restart QB, then run Quick Fix My Program from the Tool Hub. If it still crashes, turn off overtime tracking temporarily (if accessible), or try starting payroll from a different entry point Employees - Pay Employees. Only if crashes continue across payroll actions should you run Verify/Rebuild to rule out file damage. Try some third party repair tool like Stellar Repair for QuickBooks would only be relevant if the file later shows broader corruption (missing data, failed rebuilds), not for a payroll UI error alone
