After upgrading  to the 2021 version 3 weeks ago I haven't been able to send the payroll data. It goes through all the motions until it builds the send data. Once it gets half way it shuts off and clears out. Is anyone having these issues? I have contacted QB support but everything they tried doesn't work. Any suggestions?? Thank you all in advance.

Hello @Melinda Irons,

I appreciate you for reaching out to us here in the Community. I'm here to share some information about how to fix the payroll issue in QuickBooks.

There are several possible reasons why you're unable to send payroll data. Modifications to employee setup, paychecks, company information, and liability checks may lead to issues transmitting payroll information.

Since I'm unsure of the troubleshooting steps that were already performed, I can provide some suggestions. First, try to check the connectivity to ensure the issue isn't related to your internet connection.

If the problem persists, you can proceed by running the Audit Trail report. I recommend reviewing for any special characters such as dashes, a hyphen, ampersand (&), and slashes that show under the Number and Memo column.

Here's how:

  1. Click Reports tab at the top menu.
  2. Hover your cursor to Accountant and Taxes, then select Audit Trail
  3. Date the report from date they sent last payroll to current date.
  4. Make sure the column display has the Entered/Modified Date, Memo and Number.
  5. If report is too large, you can modify the report by clicking Modify Report Tab and unchecking the columns you do not need.
  6. Look under Number and Memo column for any special characters. Double Click the Transaction with special characters and remove them. Save and Close
  7. Try and Send payroll again.

If you've already performed these steps with the support, I recommend contacting them again. They have the tools unavailable to me in this public space to continue fixing the issue on your end.

Let me walk you through how:

  1. Go to the Help menu of the company file, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Hit the Contact us link.
  3. Click Search for something else.
  4. Enter your concernthen tap Search.
  5. Click on Start a Message.

I've also attached an article you can use to download the QuickBooks Tool Hub, as well as some steps on how to choose the correct type of problem on each tab: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.
