Gross wages were $30,954.99 and premiums withheld were $78.30, but it should have been $78.42. I checked settings and employee share is correct (.6333) so it seems Quickbooks is not calculating the correct premium (.004). I contacted customer service and they said there's nothing they can do since the backend calculations come directly from the state. Anyone else running into this or know what the next steps should be?
Hello @adriansproplumbi,
Let me help share information about your payroll tax calculation and guide how to resolve them.
When a tax is calculated less than a small cents base on your calculation, it is not an error or incorrect calculation of your payroll taxes. These amounts of cents are due to tax calculation and rounding them at the exact rates.
That being said, here's an article you can read to learn more about these differences: Why do I occasionally notice penny rounding differences?
You don't have to worry about penalties in case you have paid it with the said differences. It is either the system will make an adjustment base on these cents before paying them or your agency will only take a look at the full amount of taxes paid, decimals are not included.
Additionally, you might also find this article helpful in preparing the payment of your taxes and filing them to your agency: Pay and file payroll taxes online.
If there's anything else that I can help you with aside from your payroll tax calculation, please let me know in the comments. Stay safe!
Thanks for the reply. That article also says "Differences of more than about 10 cents are generally not due to rounding in calculations. They may indicate a more significant discrepancy or error."
In this case the difference is $0.12, so I'm worried that it's more of an issue.
Let me help you fix this, @Arianna09.
We can create a Journal Entry (JE) to correct the amount. I'll guide you through the steps:
You can also consult an accountant to make sure that entries are accurate.

I have the same problem. QBO is undercollecting the quarterly WA PFML amount by 14 cents. It should be a simple calculation as our wages are a round whole number. The total owed is $95 each quarter, but QBO is only calculating (and now autopaying) $94.86. Why? I can adjust it in my books, but I'm wondering why the underlying calculation is wrong. Any way to fix that?
I appreciate you for sharing the details with us, @Anonymous.
Let’s ensure we enter the corresponding rate of your Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave insurance premiums. It could be the rate entered is incorrect causing wrong calculations.
Let me guide you how in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account:
You can also check this resource for more details: Set up your Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave insurance premiums.
If the rate entered is correct, I recommend contacting our Support team. They have the tools to securely check your account and investigate the reason for the incorrect calculations.

@Anonymous Sorry to hear you're also having this problem, but glad it's not just me. Still never got an answer on this. Just that they're going off what they receive from the state. I don't have auto pay set up, I make payments directly to the state online.
Very frustrating that something this simple couldn't be solved when contacting customer service.
@Arianna09 Based on your payroll amount above, QBO is multiplying by .004, and then by .6324 (instead of .6333). I ran this same percentage against my numbers and came out with the exact amount QBO miscalculated for me, which is .14 short. So I suspect their backend calculations are incorrect: using .6324 instead of .6333. This is causing the "rounding" error. I don't have time to sit on the phone and walk someone through this, so I just made a 14 cent payment to my WA state account to clear the balancing due and I'll make a manual correction to my books. QBO should certainly look into this asap, however, as it may be an across-the-board problem leaving many PFML accounts underpaid. Especially for those of us using automatic tax payments and filing.
@Arianna09 Sorry, the incorrect fraction they are using is .6324. (I originally mistyped it in my message above. Now corrected.)
Its been like this..differences can range to cents to $2.
it takes time and a pain to deal with customer service. i had to talk to several people before issue can be resolved.
we just do manual adjustment for the discrepancy.
