We set up and entered data for our primary location. Then we turned on

We are using Quickbooks Online Advanced. All data was entered for our primary location without the Location feature turned on. Then I created two locations. Do I need to assign a location to all the existing data? If so, is there a way to do it in a batch? And what are the steps to set location for the existing bank accounts?

Hi there, @uservksdojo.

I can help you with tracking locations in QuickBooks Online.

If you want to assign locations to your past transactions, then, yes, you need to add a location per entry manually. The option to do it by batch is currently unavailable. As a workaround, you may look for a third-party application from the apps store that supports the process of assigning location in batch.

Here's the link: QuickBooks Apps.

Moreover, adding locations to bank accounts is not yet an option with QuickBooks. Rest assured our product developers are working nonstop to deliver the best experiences for all QuickBooks users.

@uservksdojo

Utilize a migration too to modify your data in bulk.

Thank you, Angelyn.

I used class instead of location and edited every transaction. Now the Activity report by class (profit & loss) shows a column for one class EXCEPT for the sales tax adjustment that can't be edited. I don't want this extra column for 'unassigned'. Is there a way to fix this?

However, the Statement of Financial Position (balance sheet) does not show columns by class with a total for the organization. How can I do this using class?

If I had done this for location instead of class, would the Statement of Financial Position AND the Activity report show one column for each location with totals for the organization?

And by the way, when I followed the link in the second posted reply to this message, my browser warned me that the site was phishing for my private information.

You're always welcome, @uservksdojo.

I appreciate you for getting back to us here on this forum. I'm here to share with you some additional insights about class/location tracking in QuickBooks Online.

The class and location features work similarly the same. Thus, you don't need to make any changes on how to want to classify your transactions. To learn more about these features, you can check out these articles:

With your sales tax adjustment, it'll show up on the Unassigned or Unclassified section since you aren't able to select a class when making an adjustment. As a workaround, you can record a transaction from the (+New icon for the adjustment. Then, pick a class from there. However, I would suggest seeking assistance from your accountant to help you with recording the adjustment accurately.

Moreover, you can open the Balance Sheet Detail report so you can add the Location and Class column to your transactions. Here's how:

  1. Click on Reports at the left pane, then open the Balance Sheet Detail report.
  2. Filter the dates, then make the other customization.
  3. Mark the Class or Location column from the small gear icon.
  4. Tap on Run report to refresh the page.

Lastly, I recommend enabling your anti-spyware or firewall settings and update your browser regularly to prevent phishing attacks. The firewall protection prevents access to malicious files by blocking the attacks. Antivirus software scans every file which comes through the Internet to your computer.
