Let's get rid of the error message so you can enter extra withholding for your employees, @Marta_69.

It's possible that the browser you're using had a data issue that's why you're getting the Enter a positive correction value error when entering extra withholding. To verify, let's log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser. To do so, press this shortcut key on your keyboard:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

If this works, it means that you need to clear the browser's cache so the system can start fresh. If you get the same result while using a private browser, I recommend switching to a different one.

Once everything is fixed, you might want to read this article to learn more about entering an employee's W-4 information: Enter a W-4. This article will also discuss the new changes to the Federal W-4.

Let me know how it goes, I want to make sure this is taken care of, @Marta_69.

I'm having this same problems when updating an employees W-4. Extremely frustrating. I've cleared the cache, and done an incognito window and still I get this error. Any updates on this problem?

Hi, Julia. Let me share with you some insights about the Enter a positive correction value message when trying to update employees' W-4.

If I may ask, may I know the payroll service you're using? If you had the Intuit Full Service Payroll, our engineers are currently investigating the root cause of the issue. This way, you'll be able to proceed with modifying the W-4 information.

For now, I'd suggest reaching out to our Support Team so a representative can add your name to the list of affected users in this investigation (INV-67565). Once added, you'll automatically receive email notifications of the latest updates.

If you're using the Enhanced Payroll, you can also reach out to our designated support since clearing the cache and using a private browser don't fix the issue. They'll be able to access your account securely and help you with updating your employees' W-4.

You can open this link for the support's contact information. From there click the designated link on the product or services you're using: Contact QuickBooks products and services Support.

As you continue working with your payroll entries, you can also check out the resources from this link to stay compliant with the payroll tax regulations: Payroll Tax Compliance Links.

Let me know if you have any other follow-up questions about your W-4 Form. I'm always here to help. Have a good one!

I appreciate you getting back to us and clarifying your payroll service, @JuliaFitzgerald.

Quickbooks Online Payroll Premium is part of the full-service payroll. And as mentioned by my colleague Angelyn_T above, we have an ongoing investigation about modifying employees' W-4 information.

If you haven't yet, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. This way, they can add your company to the list of affected users and get an update about the resolution status. You can also provide this investigation number for easy tracking: INV-67565. To reach them, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Click the Help button.
  3. In the QuickBooks Assistance chatbox, select Talk to a human and choose I still need a human.
  4. Select Contact Us.

You might want to learn more about the Federal W-4. You can read this article for more details: What’s changing with the Federal W-4?

Thank you for your patience while we work for a fix, @JuliaFitzgerald. Keep in touch if you need any more assistance with this, or there's something else I can do for you. I've got your back.
