When I export the tax information for 941 the information is all there,, It says it exports but when you open the file it is blank. Nothing imports.

I cannot successfully import the tax payment for February tax payment to QB desktop from online payroll. The information is there, the file exports but it the export doesn't yield any information. So I was able to export the paychecks and that info is there, but the tax information won't import.

I can share some information about how tax payments works, rhored.

Please know that the functionality to import payroll data is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. For the tax payments you made last month, you'll have to manually enter them into the program. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu, then choose About QuickBooks.
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Y or Ctrl + Shift + Y to open the Setup YTD Amounts window.
  3. Select Next until you reach the Enter prior payments section.
  4. In the Enter Prior Payments window, click Create Payment to enter all prior payroll tax and non-tax payroll liability payments you have made during the current year.
  5. Enter the Payment Date and For Period Ending date accordingly
  6. In the Taxes and Liabilities field, choose the payroll tax item that you've already paid and want to record in QuickBooks Desktop.
  7. Select the Accounts Affected button, then select the option for how you want the payment to affect your Chart of Accounts.
  8. Click Next Payment until you have completed all payments.
  9. Hit Done, then select Finish.

I'm also adding this article to learn more about the lists and transactions that you can import in QBDT: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

"Please know that the functionality to import payroll data is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. For the tax payments you made last month,..."   What?  since when?  Is this a newly disabled feature?  I do not understand.  I have been importing this information from intuit and then from intuit quickbooks payroll for years.  I am in utter confusion over the changes I have been forced to make over the last year.  This is yet another shock, that you are telling me that I cannot export and import this data.  I really need to discuss this with a tech support specialist because it makes no sense.   When was this new limitation perpetrated against online payroll  subscribers who use quickbooks desktop.

Thanks for getting back to us, @rhored.

As mentioned by my colleague above importing payroll data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop is unavailable. You can follow the steps shared above on how to manually enter them. For the list of transactions that we can import to QBDT, see this article: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Since you mentioned that this worked before, I'd suggest contacting our Payroll Support Team. They have special tools like screen sharing so they can take a closer look at your issue and assist you with this matter.
