Where do I enter tax rates for local tax jurisdictions?

Hi @spicerdanielle-y,

Welcome to the Community. I'll handle your query about local tax jurisdictions in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Follow these steps:

  1. Highlight the Payroll tab.
  2. Select Employees.
  3. Search for the employee in question, then click on their name.
  4. Tap the Edit (pencil) icon beside Pay.
  5. Press the Edit (pencil) icon on the section What are [employee name's] withholdings?
  6. Go to Local Taxes.
  7. Choose the local tax jurisdiction.
  8. Hit Done.

See this article for more information on this process: Local tax setup and support: Main hub

Do you have other questions about the local taxes in QBO? Place them below, and I'll take care of them for you.

Where do I enter tax rates for local tax jurisdictions?

Hello,

This is a great step-by-step. Unfortunately, when I click the "edit" button for withholdings and go down to the local tax section, there is no place to enter or edit--only the default options, then a message: "Not seeing the correct local tax jurisdictions above? Please call our care team today to set up the correct taxes for your location."

Am I missing an option for how I can edit the taxes when the ones that show up by default are not correct? I don't see any further edit options down there. That would be fantastic to have though!!

Thank you for posting your response in this thread, lynn51.

I'd like to share what I know about local tax set up in QuickBooks Online.

You'll need to verify the employee's address and work location first since QuickBooks automatically adds the local taxes based on those entries.

If you don't see the correct local tax jurisdiction, I recommend contacting our support team to set up the correct taxes for your location.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Help.
  2. Select the Search tab.
  3. Click on Contact Us.
  4. Enter a keyword of your concern, then click Continue.
  5. You'll be given options on how would you like to connect.
  • Chat - Chat with them.
  • Callback - Have them call you.
