Join nowIt appears there must have been an update to Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise which no longer allows us to update/change an employee's hire date. If a date is present in that field, it is grayed out so no change can be made. Additionally, if a new employee is being added the hire date automatically sets to today and we are not able to change it. This is a HUGE problem since an employee may not always be hired on the day that they are added in QB. We can however make changes to an employee's original hire date which seems completely backwards.
We previously used the Hire Date, Original Hire Date and Last Day Worked fields to track various milestones and trigger certain actions. We are now going to have to find a workaround using other fields and make changes to 100+ employees since the "Hire Date" field is now basically useless to us.

The sample company looks like the screenshot you provided and how our Employee Center used to look.
I did however locate where the "Hire Date" can be changed. It can be changed on the new "Required Info" tab. That information then carries over to the "Employment Info" tab where it can not be changed.
Nice to see you here in the Community,@lindsayw. I appreciate the details about changing your employee's hire date. Let me help share some steps to get this fixed.
To get started, open a sample file to determine if the behavior is the same as your company file and find out if the issue is with your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) software.
Here's how:
Once opened, change the employee's hire date in the sample company file. You may follow the steps below:

If you can edit the hire date in the sample company, go back to your original file, update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release, and perform the verify and rebuild tool. It's a built-in tool that auto-detects and self-resolves minor company file data issues.

However, if the issue persists, I'd suggest closing your QuickBooks Desktop. Then, re-open and run as the master admin and ensure to update your QBDT to the latest release. Once done, you may follow the steps above on how to edit the hire date of your employees.
Additionally, let me share these resources on how to invite your employees to Workforce and how to run payroll reports in QuickBooks:

That's horrible. What a dreadful solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I appreciate your help with this. I was starting to freak out because I just realized the hire date was greyed out - I'm glad your EASILY explained how to correct it.
Horrible change QB's made - horrible - had no reason to change it in the first place. Should ALWAYS use the KISS method - or if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I can't imagine ANYONE who works in QB's requesting to do this with the hire date, just stupid.
