Data import from desktop to desktop

We ran Quickbooks desktop (premier for contractors with payroll) until May of this year.  In May we switched to QBOnline, because payroll support for desktop 2020 was ending (and we didn't know at that point that we could continue with a desktop 2023 subscription (long story)).  In August, we finally gave up the fight of making QBO work for us and purchased a desktop 2023 subscription and began the process of migrating our data into it.

Here is my problem...as far as I can find, there no way to import payroll data from QBO into Desktop 2023.

We need to be able to run profitability reports for jobs, which means we need time by job from both desktop 2020 and QBO.  Is there anyway I can get this payroll related data into Quickbooks without re-entering all the timesheets?  Desktop 2023 offers me the option to enter quarterly payroll info, or to enter individual check info (total hours, tax and deduction info) which would be a massive undertaking and wouldn't solve our problem since we need the time per job (for each job) not just the total time.

Feeling pretty abandoned here...a little info from Quickbooks in May might have saved us a lot of time and expense.  We would welcome any recommendations.

Data import from desktop to desktop

Hi there, Finaco!

Welcome, and thank you for taking the time to post today!

Generating a time-by-job report currently necessitates the manual reentry of time entries into our system.

One viable solution is to look into third-party applications that specialize in importing payroll data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) directly into QuickBooks Desktop. These applications can streamline the transfer of data, eliminating the need for duplicate data entry and reducing the chances of errors. By integrating such a tool into our workflow, we can significantly enhance our reporting capabilities, save valuable time, and ensure the accuracy of our job-related time tracking and reporting processes.

If yo have any other concerns, please do not hesitate to go back to this thread. I'm just around to help.

Closer inspection reveals that all the hours by job are actually IN the system (they imported somehow), BUT they don't show up in any payroll reporting.  When I run a payroll summary report there is nothing there.  And when I run a job report there are no labor hours associated with it, BUT when I go into payroll, and select an employee, and then a date and open an individual check (and all the checks are there) THERE I can find all the hours by job.  They just aren't connecting to anything.

I appreciate you looking over all the hours by job, @Finaco.

At this time, QuickBooks can only generate data if manually entered in the system, not the imported one.

I understand that you want to run a report that shows all the hours by job is beneficial for you and your business. For now, I encourage submitting feedback directly to our product engineers. They may look into this suggestion and consider adding the option in the future update. To send your feedback, you can go to the Help menu and select Send Feedback Online. Then, enter your product suggestion in the field and click Submit.

You can also visit our feedback forum to check the recent updates and added features in QuickBooks.

I'm still open to your replies if you have additional questions about running reports in QuickBooks Desktop. Have a good one.
