Domain Users Who Aren't Admin Stuck In Reboot Loop

I have a domain network when normal Domain Users (not admins) attempt to install updates, they get stuck with the message that "Quickbooks needs to reboot computer". The only solution I've found is to sign in as an admin and install the update manually. The QB updates are allowed via GP to run, and some updates install fine, others get stuck in this loop.

If it were just one or two users, it wouldn't be an issue. However, when you have 20 different accountants with the same issue at the same time, it takes time to get to all of them. By the time I'm done, I've got at least 18 different people that can't work for that time.

Is there a fix for this, or are my users just doomed to get fed up with me and Intuit with every update? Giving admin rights to all of them is out of the question, before anyone asks it. PCI compliance will not allow it.

Domain Users Who Aren't Admin Stuck In Reboot Loop

Any inconvenience caused isn't what we want you to have. Allow me to assist you in resolving the issue with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) runtime issues.

Domain users should run QBDT as an administrator to have access rights to QuickBooks programs. To do this, hover over the QBDT app, right-click, and select Run as administrator. Once done, install the updates again.

I also recommend checking firewall settings since third-party applications running in the background may cause update installation errors.

If the issue persists, let's get updates from the internet as a workaround. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page and click the standard setup option.
  2. Fill in the necessary fields.
  3. Select Get the latest updates
  4. Wait for the download to complete, then open the downloaded file to start the installation process.
  5. When the installation finishes, follow the on-screen instructions.

Read this reference about adding a Windows user and permitting them to run QuickBooks Desktop successfully: Create Windows users and give them administrator rights.

You can also update your company file to work in newer versions of QBDT.

I'll circle back to you if you have more questions about the program's performance. Simply click the Reply button below. Have a good one.

@PDSConsulting See QBWebPatch Silent Installation post by LThibx - LINK

I'll provide you with an update regarding the QBWebPatch Silent Installation, ericjohnson602.

The option to silently run the QBWebPatch file is still unavailable. QuickBooks aims to meet customer needs by prioritizing popular feature requests and values feedback for future updates."

Good luck trying to get QB updated in a reasonable time, lol.

Here's a thought, the morning you know a QB update is available, add the standard user to the Administrator group using a User GPO. Upon logging in, the script should run find an update / install just fine. Then have them removed from the group.
