Error: problem setting file security, there is extended information

This error message comes up when you try to do a backup and there's file damage to your QuickBooks Desktop. I suggest you run the Verify and Rebuild tools to fix this.

Here's how to verify data:

1. From the File menu, highlight Utilities.
2. Select Verify Data.

Here's how to rebuild data:

1. From the File menu, highlight Utilities.
2. Select Rebuild Data.

Right after running these tools, proceed with doing a backup once again. If the issue persists, do a clean install of QuickBooks Desktop. Along with the steps on how to uninstall and reinstall the app, you can find related articles as well.

I started getting the same error message a couple of weeks ago on my Windows 10 laptop.  I've done all the verify, rebuild, clean install, re-install, repair, etc. steps that I could find documented - several times!  Still getting the error message when I try to backup my QB Premier 2019 Nonprofit edition database to a thumb drive (which had been working for months previously).  I've tried other thumb drives as well, and installed the QB Tool Hub and tried those utilities.

After the last (3rd? 4th?) uninstall, clean install, re-install process, I started up QB and accidentally opened the database file that I had copied to my thumb drive (F:); lo and behold, when I tried to backup the database to my C: drive, it worked with no errors!  Any idea why it won't work when I try opening the database file on my C: drive, then try to backup to the thumb drive (F:)?

also ... I tried creating a test database file and backing it up and got the same error message.

It looks like the error persist. The backup usually saves without any error though you saved it in another file location.

I finally figured out the problem: in the midst of un-installing and re-installing QB multiple times, I came across a recommendation somewhere to also delete the QBServiceUserXX (can't remember the exact name) account on my Windows 10 system. Today, I thought about that again and tried to set my copy of QB to run in single user mode - and got the attached "Unable to stop hosting multi-user access" error message.

You'll note the SearchIndexUser99fb8c997 user that is name there - which I believe was linked to that old QB user account that I had deleted.

So I exited QB and ran the QuickBooks Database Server Manager utility (part of the QuickBooks Tool Hub) and it seemed to fix the problem!  I restarted QB, tried setting it to single-user mode and it worked!  I was then able to use the Backup utility and backup my database - for the first time in a month!

No problems now with backup.

I have the same problem and spent 1 1/2 hours on a call with intuit.  Their answer was to purchase 2022 premier or pay for support.

I am using premier 2021 desktop, 2 user.  After spending 1000. in June of this year for the software I then spent another 600. for support because it won't allow a 2nd user.  Now 6 months later I have another issue and can't back up my file for a multimillion-dollar company. Ridicules. 

I have been using QB since the 90's. So disappointing! 

I was having the same error but different solution.

Someone (maybe me) had turned on Control Folder Access in the Ransomware Protection under Windows Security>Virus & threat protection in the Systems settings (Windows 10 Pro Ver.22H2).  QBFTD.exe was being blocked whatever that is.  But turning off Control Folder Access solved the problem.
