I'd like to import QB for Mac into QB online. My Intuit Online Payroll has already migrated to QB Online Payroll. I have not tried to import my QB file because there is a warning the "Converting a Desktop for Mac file to Online" page. The warning is "Don't convert your file if you've already turned on Payroll in QuickBooks Online."
What am I supposed to do? An extensive google & QB search turns up nothing
Hi there, plumbstar.
I can share information about exporting QuickBooks Desktop(QBDT) for Mac files to QuickBooks Online.
Before you convert your QBDT for Mac file to QBO, there are a few things to consider. One of them is that if you've already turned on Payroll, you shouldn't convert your file. Because QuickBooks Desktop for Mac has more payroll features, certain payroll data will not be transferred. For further information, please see this article: Converting a Desktop for Mac file to Online.
You'll need to contact our payroll support to do the adjustment for the existing paycheck or you can enter prior payroll to bring your payroll data into QuickBooks Online. To set up prior payroll, check out this resource for the complete information: Set up a prior payroll for QuickBooks Online Payroll.
In addition, I'd suggest always backup your company file on a regular basis so you have a file to look back on if something went wrong.
Don't hesitate to add any details below if you have follow-up questions or concerns about exporting a file. I'll be here to assist you.
All payroll data is in QB Online Payroll from previous intuit acct. up to my 11/30/21 paycheck. There are no other employees other than me. What will importing a QBDT file due to current QBO data?
Thank you for getting back to us, @plumbstar.
Allow me to provide additional information about importing data from QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to QuickBooks Online.
As mentioned by my peer Giovann_G above, QuickBooks won't allow you to convert your file once the Payroll feature is already turned on. That said, you'll have to manually enter all the information into your QBO account. Or contact our QuickBooks Support Team to help you further with this matter.
You might also want to learn more information on how to get started with QuickBooks Online. This article will provide you the detailed information: Get started and adjust settings after you sign up for QuickBooks Online.
Please know that I'm just a reply away if you need any further assistance migrating from QBDT for Mac to QBO. Wishing you all the best, @jwilson88.
Are you saying that I would have to enter only payroll info manually or all 30 years of data from multiple accounts. All my payroll data as of my 11/30/21 paycheck is already in QB online payroll. Shouldn't this have been spelled out better before the Intuit migration to QB online payroll. If this makes a difference, I do not have any kind of payroll turned on in QBDT. All payroll was done by Intuit Payroll. I would then export transactions into QBDT

You can utilize an importer tool to help migrating your data from QB Desktop.

Another option, consider purchasing a 3rd party conversion service.
