Move from QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to QuickBooks Online

Learn how to move your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac file to QuickBooks Online.

No need to start over again. Just move your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac file to a QuickBooks Online company. We'll show you how.

Note: You can only move QuickBooks Desktop for Mac files to the US version of QuickBooks Online. Also, if your file has more than 1,500,000 targets, you'll need to condense your file.

If you use QuickBooks Desktop version 2020 and later:

Sign in to your QuickBooks Desktop file as the admin.
Select File, Export and then To QuickBooks Online.
(You can also use the keyboard shortcut Shift + Command + D).
Select Get started.
Select Export all your company file data or Export specific data.
If you use inventory, you can choose whether you want to move inventory or not.
If you already have a QuickBooks Online account select Yes, sign me in and enter the credentials.
If you don't have a QuickBooks Online account, select No, I need to create a new one and create a new account.
Select the QuickBooks Online company to move your data to, then select Continue.

Your migration has started. Your QuickBooks Desktop data will replace any data already entered in QuickBooks Online.

After you move your data to QuickBooks Online

You’ll receive an email confirmation once the move is done.
Confirmation can take up to 12 hours.

If you use QuickBooks Desktop version 2019 or older:

Use the online migration tool to move your file to QuickBooks Online.

Note: If your company data more than 1,500,000 targets, you will need to condense your file.
