Download and use the QuickBooks Online desktop app

You can download the QuickBooks Online desktop app for your Windows or Mac computer to access and manage your company files. The app allows you to stay signed in, manage multiple companies, and use features like split-screen and keyboard shortcuts.

Prerequisites

If you are switching from QuickBooks Desktop, you must move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online first.

App features

Once installed, the app provides several benefits:

Stay signed in: The app keeps you signed in for up to 6 months, so you don’t have to enter your username and password every time. You will stay signed in unless you manually sign out.
Access multiple companies: You can manage more than one company file using separate tabs, all in one place.
Work on two tasks at a time: A split-screen feature allows you to improve your productivity by managing two tasks at once.
Use keyboard shortcuts: Speed up your workflow and simplify tasks by using keyboard

Download and install the app

Here's how to get the QuickBooks Online app for your computer.

Step 1: Download and install

Download the correct version for your computer:
- Download for Windows
- Download the app for Mac:
  - Chip (Apple Silicon)
  - For Processor (Intel)
Note: To check your Mac's model, go to the Apple menu, select About This Mac, and look for Chip (for an Apple Silicon model) or Processor (for an Intel model).
Install the app on your computer.
When the installation is finished, a shortcut for the app appears on your desktop.
Select the shortcut to open the app if it doesn't open automatically.

Step 2: Sign in

Sign in with your Intuit user ID and password.
If you have multiple QuickBooks Online companies, select the company you want to open.

Use multitasking features in the app

The app allows you to view multiple companies and pages at once.

Open an additional company

Select the + icon next to the current company tab group.
Select the company you want from the list.

Open an additional page (same company)

Select the + icon next to the current page tab.
Open multiple pages within each company tab.

Use split-screen

Select Split screen.
Select the second task you want to work on. The screen you’ve selected is outlined in a green border.

Result

You can now use the QuickBooks Online desktop app for enhanced multitasking and browsing.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any problems with the app, try closing and reopening it. You can also uninstall and re-install it, or contact us for help.
