How do I combine my old 2014 quickbooks info with new version

Good Evening, john6068.

Do you have QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop? I ask this because QuickBooks Desktop is the only product in which you would combined files from an older version. If you need assistance with Upgrading your company files click on the hyperlink. It shows the steps broken down in detail.

If you need further help, I'm only a few clicks away. Have a great night.

Desktop versions operate the same. 2014 is no longer supported with updates and you cannot  use merchant payments or direct bank feeds but your data file will probably directly open with a newer Desktop Pro 2020 version without much hassle.  That won't change your data.

Even if you wanted to convert to the Online version you would have to update to 2020 with a free trial. And there is no guarantee that you would not be still doing the same old same old.

You can get help here in this forum for any and all versions, including your existing outdated 2014 without changing versions. You can also get help from a Certified Pro Advisor either in your area or that would work remotely.  After an initial consult you would be paying them a fee.

So spell out your particular issues that make you think you want to change to something else that unless you change what it is you are doing that you think is wrong, will still be wrong.

Thank you. One of my issues is the PPP loan I received. I put it in my chart of accounts as long term liability. But it's not showing in my bank on quickbooks as the money being in there but it is showing on my opening balance equity but as a decrease with the balance in minus and red. If any of that makes since at all. I'm sorry it's a mess. Here is a pic of how it looks on my equity page. It's showing a negative

Your attachment did not come through but I get the picture.

When you entered the PPP loan on your books you entered a beginning balance instead of leaving it zero and increasing it via a bank deposit.  Opening Balance Equity is reserved for existing balances that predate your use of the software. Since this is a new loan you should not have entered a beginning balance.

To correct this I would create a bank deposit the day it was deposited and credit the OBE account.  Or you could find the transaction that posts the loan amount to OBE, delete the transaction and then create the proper bank deposit from an increase in loan liabilty
