How long does it take to convert Desktop Pro to Online Essentials? It ran for 12 hours and still was not finished. I cancelled, checked number of targets and verified I was running as admin then restarted. It checks the data, had a script error then hangs.
I can see that you've been through a lot in trying to convert your file, Kat7.
It only takes around 30 minutes to convert your QuickBooks Desktop file over to the online version. Please take note though that the conversion process will depend on the file size of your company file.
Since you received an error while doing the process, I'd suggest reaching out to our Technical Support Team. They have tools to check what's causing the delay of the conversion, and assist you with completing the process successfully.
Here's how to get in touch with them:
I'll be here if you have any additional concerns. Thanks for dropping by.

And it does always say in fine print that it can take up to 24 hours to get the email that your conversion is done and ready
Thank you for the replies. I disabled payroll and then the upload took just a few minutes. My understanding was that payroll data just would not import, not that it would keep the upload from working. Ironically my payroll transaction details still seem to be in tact though some of my employees did not come over as employees. They were inactive so that might be why.
May not have been so smart after all. I just read that payroll would be messed up if it is off in desktop and on in QBonline. However it was not active online yet. In fact, I still can't use it although I am paying for it. My historical payroll info is all messed up even though I provided my portable file to support. I don't mind physically rebuilding it myself if I have to but can't seem to get support when I call in. No one knows anything. They want me run payroll again next week through desktop and provide the updated portable company file. Where can I get good info? The available helps online seem to conflict with the answers I get when I call in.
Thanks for commenting back into this post, @Kat7.
I can provide additional insights and clarification about the conversion process and entering historical payroll in QBOP.
I agree with what our moderator mentioned above. There are limitations when converting a desktop profile to Online Essentials. Paychecks come over as a regular check after the conversion. Setting up the payroll feature in the Online account requires you to enter all that information before you'll able to create a paycheck.
In your case, since some transactions were already imported, you will need to get in touch with our QBO Payroll Team. They have the tools to enter your historical payroll data.
There you have it. Don't hesitate reaching back out to us if you have other questions. Wishing you and your business continued success.
