IIF Import in Quickbooks 2019 Desktop

Balony!!  2019 import isn't new and improved.  I've imported ADP payroll data nearly 300 times in the last 10 years using previous versions of quickbooks.  Not a single error.  Now, QuickBooks 2019 is too smart for its own britches and refuses to import an iff file created in the same format as the last 10 years.  You need to communicate the changes to other major vendors so they can create files that match the 2019 requirements.  Now I have to edit every iff file going forward.

IIF Import in Quickbooks 2019 Desktop

Hi again, Mailbxs,

I appreciate you getting back to the Community and sharing your experience with regards to the improved Import IIF Tool process.

The importance of the recent changes made to QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2019 is to improve IIF import problems and bugs issues.

You can check out this article for more detailed information: Recent changes, improvements, and fixes in QuickBooks Desktop 2019.

If you're not able to successfully import, you'll see the number of list and transactions that both failed and was successfully imported. With this being said, QuickBooks automatically creates a new .IIF file for failed records with error info.

To move forward, you have 3 options to consider:

  • Review now opens the new .IIF created. Proceed to "How to review the errors in .IIF" section below.
  • Open in folder opens the folder where the new .IIF file is located.
  • Close closes the window and ignores the Lists and Transactions that weren't imported.

However, if you're getting challenges in importing, I invite you reaching out to our Customer Care support. They have the specific tools to pull up your account in a secured environment and guide you using our screen sharing tool.

To contact us, here's how:

  1. On your QuickBooks account, click the Help tab at the top menu bar .
  2. Choose Contact Us.
  3. Ask a question.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Choose to Talk to a Specialist.

As always, feel free to reach back out if there's anything else you need help with. Have a great day!

You can likely still get this to work as it did by bypassing the new, improved, and debilitating changes.

Greetings, Gary D.

Welcome aboard to the Community. I'd be glad to help you figure out the error you encounter during the import process in QuickBooks Desktop.

You need to follow the required format to successfully import your IIF file without any errors in the system. You can either use our Import Kit or refer to our sample files to ensure you have the required fields.

I just updated from QB2017 to QB2020 (desktop) and having the same problem, NONE of my ADP GL iif accounts will import, as apparently date is missing on the "distribution" line.

No way to change it on APD side.

NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BEFORE THE "IMPROVED" version!

If I have to open Excel and edit EVERY GL, before I import, I may as well enter all the data manually.

Also I had to research the "improved Error finding" how to OPEN "Review Now", as when you click on that button QB tells you cann

Hello there, @Bluebell55.

When importing transactions, we need to ensure that the format is accurate. To do this, you need to add the account in Excel to correct the error.

You may also check out some supported third-party apps that might help you with connecting the ADP file into QuickBooks.

I've also added this article that can guide you in importing transactions into QuickBooks Desktop: Export, import, and edit IIF files.

Please know that I'm only a post away if you need a hand with importing transactions in QuickBooks. Always keep safe.

@Bluebell55

I noticed there are many unresolved technical issues on IIF feature since 2019. Consider to utilize one of these importer tools as the workaround to import data as JE.
