In qbooks desktop 2016 & 2017, where is the auotmatic change decimal place in preferences?

Thanks for joining the thread, @dmr08,

The Price Rules feature are available in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise versions 18.0 and later. This means, your version should have this preference available.

In the meantime, try to logout of the company file and sign in again as Admin, then try these steps:

  1. From the QuickBooks Edit menu, select Preferences.
  2. On the left pane, select Sales & Customers then go to the Company Preferences tab.
  3. In the Custom Pricing section, select Enable Advanced Pricing.
  4. (Optional) Tell QuickBooks how to handle price rounding. For example, if you set rounding to the nearest .05 cents, QuickBooks rounds the price from $15.92 to $15.95.
    • To have QuickBooks use the same rounding for all price rules, select Use the same rounding across all price rules then select the drop-down to choose a rounding option.
    • To set the rounding for each price rule separately, select Set rounding on each price rule. When new price rules are created, set the rounding.
  5. Select OK.

If you still can't find it, run the Verify/Rebuild Utility to check any data issues within the company file. This built-in tool automatically fixes minor program data issues like the one you experience setting company preferences.

Here are the steps to do it:

  1. Go to the File menu, then choose Utilities from the list.
  2. Select the Verify Data tool then wait until the diagnosis is done.
  3. If there are issues, proceed to rebuilding the company file.
  4. Tap the File menu again, then hover over to Utilities.
  5. Choose Rebuild Data then click OK.
  6. Follow the onscreen steps to save a backup.

For your reference, see the following link to learn more about this tool: Resolving Potential Data Issues

Once done, try opening the Preferences and see if it gives you the option for Advance Pricing.

However, if you get the same result after doing so, I recommend reaching out to our Support Team. They can initiate a viewing session with you and help diagnose the company file to verify what causes the problem.

To get our support, follow the steps below:

  1. Open QuickBooks and click the Help menu.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. On the pop-up screen select Contact us.
  4. Click the Search for Something else button then type your concern in the Ask us anything box.
  5. Hit Search then scroll down to get your contact options.

Refer to this article to learn more about our contact options and support availability: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support

Also, kindly update me with the result in this thread. I want to make sure this is resolved so you're able to access the Advances Pricing option. Have a good one!

It is absurd that you can't change the number of decimal points showing in an invoice. We are using QB Time to bring hours into invoices and it looks crazy when you show 4 or 5 trailing digits, and need to have it automatically round up on the invoice.

I appreciate you for joining this thread, @buildhelm. Let me add some information about how decimal works on an invoice.

I recognize how relevant editing the number of decimals in the invoices to your business is. Currently, this option is unavailable in QuickBooks Online.

When it comes to rounding the amounts, the calculation, like income, etc., will be based on the final rate. QuickBooks automatically converts the sum to the nearest hundredths (two decimal places).

Moreover, let me attach this link to help you manage your invoices in QuickBooks Desktop: Record sales transactions.

You can always visit this website: Customize Form Templates. This article provides you steps on how to duplicate, export, or import your custom templates. It also includes a link on how to troubleshoot common issues when using and customizing templates at the bottom of the page.

Should you have other questions about your invoices in QuickBooks, please let me know so I can answer them for you. Stay safe and take care.
