Join nowprior to purchasing QB 2020 desktop version, my whole QB program was on my laptop. I would do my backups on an external hard drive.
I don't know if I made a mistake along the way but now my QB program is on an external hard drive, its a bit annoying moving the hard drive around with my laptop ( it is not a thumb drive).
Also I have forgotten my password and I have to go through an online reset with a code sent from QB.
Before it was something I could handle in house. I did not need to be connected to the internet.
Thank to anyone who can help.
I've got your back on moving and restoring your backup file, @jerseydane.
QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) allows you to use an external device or a hosting service when backing up your company file. However, when you're trying to restore it, you'll need to move it to your local hard drive first. I understand that it's another process. However, it's how QBDT works when restoring a backup file to avoid errors.
Here's an article you can check for more details: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
On the other hand, resetting the password for QuickBooks Desktop requires a code that is sent to your email. This is to ensure the security of the account.
I'm adding this article for detailed information: Reset your password for QuickBooks Desktop.
Please let me know if you need clarification about this, or there's anything else I can do for you. I'll be standing by for your response. Have a great day.
Good day, @jerseydane!

Mark,
So sorry, I had a heck of a time to find my way back here. I was the first time I reached out for help so it took me a while. Thank you for your time and help.
I understand what you are writing but it was really not what I wanted to hear. :-))
I guess the older version I had, 2017 I think, could do that. So I have to get used to it.
I do have an issue regarding entering inventory, can I ask you about that?
Thanks again
Michael
