Move backup desktop file to Online

I am taking over the accounting/bookkeeping for our homeowner's association.  The accountant who had previously been doing the books on QB Desktop Pro 2020 sent me the backup file.  I am on a Mac and have QB Online.  I need help getting the file transferred to Online.  Do I need to download a desktop trial first?  If so, does it matter what version? And where can I get the trial?

Thank you for any assistance you can provide!

I'm here to ensure you can move the backup file from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO), @debbiek405

To successfully move the backup file from QBDT Pro 2020 to QBO, it will be necessary to download a trial version.

Since the backup file is downloaded from Windows, not on Mac, you'll need to have a Windows machine so you can download and install the trial. You don't need any codes to open the trial version, and please don't try to register it, as this could lock you out of QuickBooks. Once installed, you can restore the file and move it to QBO.

For the trial version to run smoothly on your computer, please ensure your system meets the minimum requirements

Additionally, it is essential to know what features and data will be transferred during the migration process.

For future reference, I'll add these articles to help you get started and manage your transactions in QBO.

Please remember that you can always return whenever you require assistance moving your backup file or downloading the QBDT trial version. I'm always here to help you out.

I have downloaded the QB Enterprise trial and restored the backup file.  I then signed in as the Administrator, and pressed Ctrl + 1 to pend the Product Information window.  However, when I press Ctrl +B +Q, the export window does not open.

Thanks for reaching out to us, @debbiek405. Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to open the export window in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) so you can proceed with the migration.

To resolve common issues when using QBDT, I recommend downloading and installing the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Before doing so, ensure to update the program to its latest release. To do that:

  1. Close your QBDT and download the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. Open the file you downloaded.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  4. When the installation finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Once done, use the tools available in the Tool Hub. For more information, please refer to this article: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our customer service team so they can determine the root cause of the issue. They also have the available tools to raise an investigation when necessary.

Furthermore, you can run reports in QBO to view important financial information about your business.

Keep in touch if you need further guidance about moving your QBDT data to QBO. We're always available in the Community to assist you. Stay safe, and have a good one.

@debbiek405

when I press Ctrl +B +Q, the export window does not open.

Open the sample file on the trial version of Enterprise, then press CTRL B Q. Did you encounter the same problem?
