I can't move and reinstall my files on a new computer.  I followed the instructions and when it gets to reinstalling it just shuts down.

I appreciate you for following the instructions in moving your files to your new computer, @potluckjr

There are a lot of factors to consider when your computer shuts down after reinstalling your QuickBooks Desktop. These are the following:

  • Your computer should meet the QuickBooks Desktop required system specifications. QuickBooks Desktop has different versions, and you can search for the system requirements in our QuickBooks Community page for your current version.
  • You'll need to download the QuickBooks Desktop from the official page to ensure the file is not corrupted.
  • Check for any error logs or messages that appear before the shutdown occurs. These logs can provide vital information about what might be causing the shutdown.
  • Ensure that your new computer's hardware, such as the RAM, is functioning correctly. Hardware issues can cause unexpected shutdowns during software installation, as it uses vast memory usage to install files to your computer.
  • Resetting your BIOS configuration to its factory reset can also help. Please note that all changes you have made in the BIOS will reset after doing it. I recommend consulting your IT technician, who has set up your, computer to check your computer before resetting the BIOS.

If your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements, you'll need to consider upgrading your system. However, you can also consider moving to QuickBooks Online for a cloud-based account that can be accessible anywhere.

I'm always here to ensure you can move and reinstall your QuickBooks Desktop files to your new computer, @potluckjr. Keep me updated by replying below if you need additional assistance.
