Join nowHello everyone,
Our company just purchased a new computer (the one we are replacing simply isn't powerful enough) and we wanted to install QB Desktop on that computer. We have done this in the past, but we are having some issues now.
Our main computer uses QB 2023 online version for all regular accounting, however, the computer we just purchased is only being used for invoicing, so we don't need any bells and whistles, we already have those with 2023.
We installed QB 2009 on the new computer. When we tried to install the upgrade to 2016, we ran into difficulty. The key code for the 2009 disc we have was rejected. This is very strange because this all worked with the computer we are replacing. Not sure what we are doing wrong.
Intuit keeps changing policy on their products so perhaps somehow what was working previously, might not work now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Danny
Installing the QuickBooks 2016 version on your new computer is essential for seamless work, Danny. I'd be delighted to share the possible cause of the issue and ensure this gets resolved.
The QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2009 and 2016 are different versions. Both programs have different license numbers and product codes. It's the cause of why the code was rejected.
To successfully install the QBDT 2016, I recommend using the online downloader tool. The older versions of QuickBooks are still available for download through our website. As long as you have the necessary information for registration and licensing, it's still possible to go back in time.
Beforehand, make sure the program is compatible with your newly purchased computer.
Then, follow these steps to download the 2016 version:
After that, you can start installing the QBDT 2016 version. Then, enter the correct license info.
If you don't have it handy, open the 2016 product on your old computer and press F2 on your keyboard. Alternatively, access your email and look for the purchase confirmation (it contains all the necessary details). Or use our license lookup tool to locate the information.
Once done, create a backup of your file on an external device like a USB or a hosting service. Then, move the data to your local hard drive before restoring the copy.
Finally, I suggest running various reports to keep track of your business performance after moving to a new device:

Your QB Desktop 2009 license cannot be used to install any other year's version. You can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2012, 2015, and 2019 to upgrade your file gradually. Contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for assistance.
