What does the warning message say exactly? There are several things that can trigger it.

This version of Quickbooks requires TLS 1.2 for secure communications

Am a QB user with QBPro2016. Just upgraded to Win 10 on a new Dell PC.  Am consistently getting the TLS 1.2 warning.  Why am I getting it? How can I make it go away?

No I haven't because some of your answer seems not to apply to QB Pro 2016 Desktop.  You seem to be using and  running QuickBooks Enterprise.  Not sure all things are the same. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

ssmith, I think you'll find the different versions of QuickBooks are more similar than different in how they act and the problems they exhibit. Whatever you think is best.

Hi all, I am running QB Premier Pro 2015 Desktop and have done the browser updates to my Win 10 system, yet I keep getting the (ErrorKey - HKLM_IE_SECURITY_PROTOCOL_ERROR & ErrorKey - HKLM_DOTNET_SECURITY_PROTOCOL_ERROR) same error message for weeks now. Please explain.

Persistently receive TLS 1.2 failure warning messages on win10 which comes with all the necessary parts. What gives?

Does the warning say any thing about "elevated mode"?

This what worked for me in the same situation when I got the same error or warning message "Your Quickbooks does not have enough privileges to enable TSL 1.2.  You must run quickbooks in elevated mode to allow using TSL 1.2" :

Make sure you are logged into Windows 10 as an Administrator and NOT as a Standard User (am NOT talking about how you log into QuickBooks). If you are not logged in Windows 10 as an Administrator, that are you running QuicksBooks as a Windows 10 Administrator (by right-clicking the QuickBooks icon and selecting "Run as Administrator"). That seems to be what QuickBooks is complaining about - that you do not have Windows 10 Administrator privileges.

In our office, I have QuickBook Users on Windows 10 PC's, but I do not want the employees to have Windows Administrative Privileges to keep them from messing up their computers.

For what it is worth, when I ran into the "elevated mode" warning/problem as a Standard User, I ran QuickBooks Enterprise once with Windows 10 Administrator Privileges (and did not receive the warning), and then ran it again as a Windows 10 Standard User (non-Administrator), and have not seen the warning again since 2/9/18 on two Windows 10 PC's . I don't know if this fixed it, or if it is a temporary fix, or QB put out another update unbeknownst to us to unbugger the previous one. Will keep you posted.

You may find this tip from tojcarey helpful:

"I just figured out how to do make the alert not come up. Open Internet Explorer (make sure it's updated). Hit the "ALT" button so it shows the menu. Click on Tools/Internet Options. Go to the Advanced Tab. See all the checkboxes. Scroll down to about 2/3 of the way down and you'll see TSL 1.0, TSL 1.1, and TSL 1.2. Click TSL 1.2 so it's checked. Click ok/save, etc."

Thank you.

The TLS 1.2 warning appears to have stopped after your recommendation:

Opened IE 11.0.21 (KB4074736)

Settings > Internet Options > Advanced > Security

unchecked TLS 1.0, 1.1 and left TLS 1.2 checked

Will see if the warning does not return.

In case anyone still encounters this issue with the TLS 1.2 error...

Intuit does have a tool to fix this issue.  Head over to the following link for the article: “TLS 1.2 validation failed” Fix

The short answer is this:

1. Close QB 2015
2. Download the TLS 1.2 Readiness tool.
3. Run the tool.
4. Re-open QB.

5. Have a nice day.

Has anyone had any issues when they run this tool? Waiting to do so - don't want to create an issue!

My system says it is compliant on all the issues advised except keep getting the TLS error in QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2015

Hello, jtnj.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. As of this moment, there is no reported issue running the TLS 1.2 tools in QuickBooks Desktop. However, if you keep getting the error about TLS let's run a repair on your QuickBooks. It replaces all damaged installation files of the software. Additionally, this usually resolves corruption issues, such as being unable to open the file or preventing you from performing common tasks.

To repair QuickBooks, you can refer to these steps:

  1. On your computer, click on the Windows Start menu.
  2. In the search field, enter Control Panel.
  3. On the Control Panel page, choose Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  4. Select QuickBooks Desktop and Uninstall/Change

Just in case you need help in troubleshooting QuickBooks Desktop and Internet Explorer, take time to read this article: Verify and Troubleshoot QuickBooks Desktop and Internet Explorer settings

Feel free to get back in touch with me if you have other concerns. Stay safe!
