it is a big step, typically the old file needs to be loaded in an intermediate year, a back up made, then that back up restored in another intermediate year, etc. Generally speaking the years should be 3-4 apart
if you buy a new QB from intuit, they will step up the file for free, last I heard. Or of course you can pay for the service if you buy from somewhere else.
