Enterprise database server requirements

Hello.  A small 6-10user network is being built with Windows11pro workstations.  Installing Quickbooks Enterprise 23.0.  The server where the data will be stored will not have Quickbooks installed.   Does this server need to be running a full Windows Server operating system or can it be another Windows11pro workstation with just the Quickbooks Database Manager running?  Thanks.

Enterprise database server requirements

I wanted to clarify that the server will share the Quickbooks Enterprise data but that Quickbooks Enterprise desktop will not be used on the server; just the database manager.

Thank you for visiting the Community today, Cal - PCore.

I'm here to help and provide insights about QuickBooks (QB) Database Server Manager.

The tool mentioned above lets you share your company files with another workstation that is connected to each other with the server on a network. Before you install the tool, your computer has to meet the system requirements. This way, it's compatible with your setup and prevents unexpected issues during the installation process.

You can use any of the following versions for your database server Windows (natively installed) :

  • Windows Server 2022, Standard and Essentials
  • Windows Server 2019, Standard and Essentials
  • Windows Server 2016, Standard and Essentials
  • Windows Server 2012 R2, Standard and Essentials
  • Windows Server 2012, Standard and Essentials

For detailed information about the operating system, hardware, software, and other requirements to run QuickBooks Desktop 2023, click here to access the article.

Also, users should lodge a different version of the (QB) Database Server Manager for each QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) version. The tool will generate Network Data (.ND) files and keeps the company file stored in the host system.

If you only want Database Server Manager on your server computer, select I will NOT be using QuickBooks Desktop during the installation process. This reference will walk you through the steps for setting up QuickBooks Database Server Manager in the desktop program.

To learn more about utilizing the database server manager and the multi-user setup, feel free to browse through these resources:

Know that you can always get back to me if you have any other questions about QBDT or with the database manager. I'll get back to help you the best that I can. Have a great weekend.

Enterprise database server requirements

Hello Rasa-LilaM,

Thank you for your thorough reply.  So it looks like we will require a full Windows server computer to support the Enterprise Desktop 2023 running the Quickbooks Database Server Manager.  That said, what would you recommend as a processor for the server.  I see where the Quickbooks Desktop has a recommended 2.4GHz and 16GB memory.  I am looking for good performance for growth and not just minimum hardware requirements.

Thanks again.
