How do I get an expert to help me transfer a company file backup from 2006 into quickboos desktop 2020

You may have 2 options:

1. Install the trial license of QBD 2011 and 2015 to convert your file prior to opening it on your QBD 2020. We may share the trial codes of them.

2. Purchase a 3d party conversion service.

Thanks! The file I have is a QBB. Do I need to first open that in 2006 (perhaps easier said than done, as a rogue employee deleted the copy we had running in an XP virtual window within windows 7) and save it in a better format for transferring it? Or can I just start by opening it in the trial version of 2011?

And where can I find those trial codes?

I'm here to point you to the right direction so you can get the trial links and codes for the file upgrade. 

You don't need to restore the QBB file and use a different format. You can do it directly on the 2011 version.

Aside from Fiat and BigRedConsulting's suggestions, our support can also help you get the trial links and codes for older QuickBooks versions. I recommend contacting them so they can assist you with the interim upgrade jumps. 

Here's how to contact them: 

1. Go to this link: QuickBooks Desktop product support portal. 
2. Ensure the product is set for QuickBooks Desktop, then hit Continue.
3. Fill out the form then on the box, enter something like "Restore QBB file for 2006 version so I can upgrade to 2020."
4. Click Continue.
5. Select either Chat with us or Have us call you.
