Intuit Data Protect not working after upgrade from 2018 to 2021 Desktop Pro

Intuit Data Protect isn't working. We purchased annual subscription to backup our 2018 Desktop Pro version years ago. After (mandatory) upgrade to 2021 Desktop Pro version, we are supposed to have free IDP to go with it. After the QB upgrade, the IDP icon disappeared from the icon tray. My only option in QB desktop for Backup is "Open Online Backup: Intuit Data Protect" - which does absolutely nothing when I click on it. 

 

I checked this article, did not help:

Solution 2: Make sure IBuEngHost.exe isn’t running as a Windows user - 

IBUEngHost.exe doesn't run at all.

 

I cannot try IDP diagnostic tool, cause my IDP icon disappeared, so I cannot right click on it. 

 

When I try to open the app manually, under C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\DataProtect\IntuitDataProtect.exe - nothing happens again

 

I tried to reinstall QB, clean registry in between, restarted my computer multiple times, nothing. I think the paid version is "fighting" with the free version. I need solution asap. 

 

( I did spent and hour and half on chat with support, only to get this as solution https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/sync-applications/set-up-intuit-data-protect-to-ba... - not useful at all!!!)

This is info for anyone who would have same or similar problem. Neither support was of any help and I spent hours on it. Advices to right click on IDP icon in try to update it are totally not helpful when I specifically said the icon disappeared on me. And that the IDP is not running. I tried different QB tools for repair, update QB, none of it helped. So this is what I did and what finally worked.

 

I uninstalled QB completely. Found out it did not uninstall it completely, just renamed the QB folder to QB.old. I searched the disk and tried delete any Intuit folders I found. Run registry clean tool (200+ entries). Restarted computer. Run registry clean tool again (again 200+entries). And one more time (40+ entries). Reinstalled QB 2021. Finally the backup works again.
