Purchase QB-Desktop-2020-Premier from Amazon

I currently have a desktop pro 2012 and need to purchase a 2020 and later version so my accountant can import the file. I can probably just use spreadsheet as I don't need any of the online services. I found a used version of 2020 desktop premier QB on Amazon. The seller has very good review so I want to give it a try. Seller said the following:

"You will receive instructions to download the application directly from Intuit official website (so that you know it is genuine and you can use it safely) and a genuine license key code to authenticate and activate the application. This is a used unit and is priced as such, which means that you will not be able to register the application in your own account. However, registration is not required in order to use the application. You can use it with no problem after you have followed the instructions to activate the application."

Questions:

1) Is there anything I need to check to make sure I have everything I need to get a legitimate copy from Intuit to work on my computer

2) can the 2020 desktop premier import my 2012 desktop pro database/files so that I can migrate from my 2012 to the new 2020 copy

3) I am not sure what my accountant is using right now but if she is using a desktop, will future updates make it impossible to read my 2020 desktop file? If she is using online version, will future online QB make it impossible to read 2020 desktop file?

Thank you.

1. Ask him to transfer the Primary Contact of CAMPS to you. You will have to find the license code in CAMPS. If he can't answer this question, you should find a new seller.

https://camps.intuit.com

2. You may need the trial version of 2015 and 2019 to upgrade your file gradually. Otherwise, you should contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA to upgrade your file.

3. Make sure your accountant has QB Desktop 2020 Pro/Premier/Accountant or 2021 Accountant to access your file later. QB Desktop and QB Online are 2 different platforms.

I'm happy to assist you with your QuickBooks Desktop 2020 version, @Armani8.

Before we continue, the QuickBooks Desktop 2020 and later versions before 2024 were discontinued. With this, we'll be unable to receive product updates, support, online services, and add-ons.

  1. No, you don't need to do anything. However, if you have a copy of the installer, you can go to this website to download the QuickBooks Desktop program: QuickBooks Downloads.
  2.  Yes, you're correct. We can restore the 2012 company file to the 2020 QB Desktop version.
  3. If you're referring to moving your data to QuickBooks Online or Vice Versa, we will need a supported version of QuickBooks Desktop. If the version is 2020, this wouldn't be possible to move.

Moreover, let me share this article to learn more about what features can move to QuickBooks Online: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Keep me posted if you still have questions about your data file. Have a great day, and take care.

Do you mean that if I were to subscribe to Solopreneur, for example, I would not be able to migrate my data online since my current copy of desktop is 2012 (if I don't purchase the 2020 version)?

I will either buy a 2020 desktop version or subscribe to solopreneur, not both.

Thank you.

Hello Armani8, thank you for getting back. Let me clarify things about migrating your data from your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) subscription.

QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is intended for small businesses. Migrating from QBDT to Solopreneur is not possible as this product is intended for freelancers and self-employed individuals.

You can only migrate to QuickBooks Online (QBO), though QBDT and QBO are two different platforms, they are the same and designed for small businesses. If you want to migrate to QBO, it's not necessary to purchase the 2020 version in QBDT. For QBDT versions 2020 or older, you can move your data to QuickBooks Online with an online tool.

You can check these out to upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop version:

Check out this link to learn how your features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

If you have more concerns about migrating your data in QBDT, feel free to go back to the Community Forum or leave a reply to this post. We're always available. Stay safe!

@Armani8

You can only convert data from QB Desktop to QB Online. If you don't need to run any add-ons, you should stay with QB Desktop with a non subscription license.

Seller cannot transfer CAMPS to me. The seller is selling a 5 user license and I only need one. I am okay with them selling to other people, as long as it doesn't pose a problem for me. Do you foresee any issue with them just sending me the activation code?

I can't see anything with that camps.intuit.com link you sent me. Is this for me to register or verify the CAMPS?

I did email FiatLUX and they can offer conversion / migration service. But since I am getting software from one person and getting service from someone else, in case my 2020 app cannot read the converted file, is it obvious what is the problem (whether the software or the conversion)?

Thank you so much.

@Armani8

You can ask Fiat Lux to share the trial code for QB Desktop 2020 Pro. Let them upgrading your company file and open it on the trial version. Then you can purchase the license later.

Just want to give a follow up on this:

I finally got a copy from one of the Amazon resellers (MLK1125). Installed successfully and was able to open all my company files in the 2020 version with no issues. I did not have to go through various stages of migration. I also looked at other accounting software and my accountant told me for what I am doing, she won't recommend moving to other products. Also looked at the subscription pricing and because I need multiple classes for my real estate holdings, I would need a plus version which would cost me $90 a month. Also a shout out to Fiat Lux for answering many questions. Even though I did not get to use this company, I can tell that they are very responsive and professional. Thank you all for those who responded in this thread.
