QBB and QBW files from QB6

Is it even possible to convert and use QBB and QBW files from QB6 to current desktop app? These files and QB6 still work on Win 7, but not new machine running Win 10.

Yes, you can restore your 2006 .QBB file to the supported QuickBooks Desktop versions (2016 and later), Eric.

However, you'll need to convert the file in an interim order to avoid data damage. For example, you'll need to go through the QuickBooks 2008, 2010, 2012, and so on. You can contact our Technical Support Team so they can help you install the lower versions temporarily.

Even though we no longer support the QuickBooks 2006 version, it still works with Windows 7. The versions that are compatible with Windows 10 are QuickBooks Desktop 2016 and later. You can refer to this article for more information: QuickBooks Desktop System Requirements.

I'd recommend upgrading to the supported versions of QuickBooks Desktop. Hence, you'll receive updates that will help you manage your business without any problems.

Feel free to let us know if you have more questions about this. I'll be around to further assist you.

Hello there, @EricD.

Please allow me to join the thread and help share a little more information about restoring files to QuickBooks.

Yes, you can simply restore the file as long as you've created a backup of your 2006 QuickBooks company file. In addition, you also have to consider the suggestions provided by my colleagues above to convert the file in an order to avoid data damage.

To learn more about restoring files in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you may check this article: Restore a backup of your company file.

On the other hand, if you need further assistance with the process, I recommend getting in touch with our Support Team.

Hi,

I just want to make sure you all understand that this is NOT concerning QB2016, but QB6.0, which has been in use since around 1993, up to today, through various versions of Windows up to Win7.

Thank you.

I appreciate your prompt response, @EricD.

I'd like to add some clarifications about the compatibility of your QuickBooks version to Windows 10.

At this time, you can still create a backup copy of your company file, and restore it to the computer that has a compatible operating system to the QuickBooks version that you have. On the other hand, Windows 10 will only be compatible with QuickBooks versions 2016 onwards.

To run QuickBooks smoothly and be able to access it in Windows 10, I'd suggest upgrading your QuickBooks to the latest one

This should get you moving today.

I'm still around if you have further questions with this concern. I'd be happy to help. Take care.

Now we are getting somewhere. How to convert QB 6.0 to QB 2016. Is it possible? Then it will open in Win10. I have QBW and QBB versions. Do you guys have that capability to convert? I am trying to do this so I can buy the new version. Thank you.

Yes, you can convert your QB 6.0 to QB 2016, EricD.

Before doing so, let me clarify some information. QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 2006 is also known as QB 6.0. You can convert it to QuickBooks Enterprise 2016 or QB 16.0.

Since you're using an older version, you can upgrade it to QuickBooks 2008 and so on to avoid data damage. To do it,  please follow the solutions provided by my colleague @JamesDuanT above.

To open this in Windows 10, you can check the QuickBooks Desktop system requirements. This is to ensure compatibility and avoid system issues.

You can also contact our Customer Care team, they can further assist you in upgrading your QuickBooks.

Here's how to contact them:
