Hello, I know that QBPOS 19 has been discontinued. I need it for historical customer information. I purchased a new computer and would like to transfer the data from the old to the new. When I open the program on the new computer it keeps on asked me to select a server and or company file? I'm not on a server does anyone know what I can do. I don't want to delete the old program off the older computer until I know I can open the data on the new computer. I tried to add an additional user on the "old" computer but that's not working. Please Help!
Hi igedesign,
Let's uninstall QuickBooks Point of Sale so you can install it on the new computer. I'm here to guide you through the steps.
Before proceeding, create a backup of your Point of Sale data, save any files you have open, and exit all programs. Once done, you can start uninstalling the system. Here's how:
Once done, restart the computer. From there, you can install the QuickBooks Point of Sale system on the new computer.
Keep me posted anytime you have concerns about managing your data.
Can it be "turned off" from the original computer then turned on the new computer prior to deleting? I don't want to take the chance of losing anything just in case it doesn't work. I need to have it on at least one computer. Can I try the multiuser mode?
Let me share some information regarding transferring your data to another computer device, Digidesign.
When it comes to moving your information from one device to another, you can use the Migrator Tool. As you use this, you'll need to be the Company Admin. You'll need to create a backup file first to ensure that all of the data is transferred to the new device since there might be instances in which not all of your data will be downloaded in your new device.
As you move your info to the new device, you'll need to have a USB inserted into the old device, copy the QuickBooks Data, and enter a one-time password. Make sure to write down this password since this will be used as you move your data. After copying the information, plug in the USB on your computer and enter your one-time password. As you put the USB flash drive to the new device, the migrator tool will do the technical work such as automatically downloading, installing, and activating QuickBooks.
Follow these steps:
Step 1: On the old computer
Step 2: On the new computer
When you're done, the migrator tool will automatically remove the files from your USB drive. No worries since your data will remain on your old computer. However, it's best to rename your file to avoid using the wrong file.
Please know that using the multi-user mode depends if you have a license where it allows multiple users. Using the muti-user mode indeed helps you log in to a company file on different computers at the same time. On the other hand, if you currently have a single-user mode, it limits the access to your company file to one person at a time.
I'll leave this guide for you to visit from time to time as you move your data to another device, this consists of a lot of helpful information that may use while performing this task: Move or reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to another computer.
Furthermore, you can also import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop if there are transactions that you'd want to put in your software.
