QuickBooks 24: Critical Alert June 17, 2024 Message

We just upgrade from QuickBooks Enterprise Accountant 21 to QuickBooks Enterprise Accountant 24. After running updates to make sure QB24 is up to date. On May 17th, every single time we open a QB file, we receive a message saying:

Critical QuickBooks update released

To get uninterrupted access to your QuickBooks, you'll need to update to the latest version before June 17, 2024.

You then have to click Learn More to get rid it of it, which opens another window.

We are running QB24 R3_61. Does this message mean we have to update to R6_75 and if we don't what happens on June 17th? My understanding is QB24 is supported until 2027.

QuickBooks 24: Critical Alert June 17, 2024 Message

Hello there, CWDPetrie. Allow me to go into detail about the critical QuickBooks update released in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Please know that for QBDT 2024, the latest is R6_75. With this, I recommend updating your QBDT to the latest release before June 17, 2024, to ensure a seamless experience. Updating to the latest version will not only enhance the performance of the software but also protect it from any potential unforeseen errors.

In addition, you can visit this article for future tips and guides while working with QBDT: Help articles for QuickBooks Desktop.

Please feel free to leave a reply if you have any further questions about critical alerts or any QuickBooks-related concerns. We're available to assist you 24/7.

QuickBooks 24: Critical Alert June 17, 2024 Message

If the update is to ensure a seamless experience, can you provide:

1) The critical issue that is requiring an updated from R3 to R6 by June 17th?

2) What will stop working, if we do not upgrade by June 17th?

This message started appearing after the R6_73 release. When I review the release notes for that, it said it fixes an issue that caused a crash when upgrading a company file from QuickBooks Desktop 2024 R1 - R5 to R6. That does not seem too critical if we have already upgraded everything.

The release notes for R6_71, R6_72, & R6_74 are  to "Updates to backend processes". Nothing in the notes indicate a Critical Issue. This is why I have my additional question about this issue.

QuickBooks 24: Critical Alert June 17, 2024 Message

I'm here to provide information about the importance of updating your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to the latest version, @CWDPetrie.

Regular updates ensure you have access to the newest features, bug fixes, and security enhancements to keep your financial data safe and your software running smoothly.

After May 31, 2024, the QBDT 2021 software will be discontinued, including all 2021 versions of Pro, Premier, Mac, and Enterprise Solutions v21. Other Intuit products will also be affected.

If you don't upgrade by May 31, 2024, you won't have access to live technical support if you have issues, or to other Intuit services that work with QBDT. These services include Payroll, Payments, and online bank feeds. Also, older versions won't get the most recent critical security patches and updates.

For more detailed information, visit this article: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

In case you want to update your company file, check out this article for guidance: Update your company files to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

I'm still all ears if you've got any more concerns regarding upgrading your QBDT version. Feel free to add a reply to this thread. Keep safe!

QuickBooks 24: Critical Alert June 17, 2024 Message

We have already upgrade from QuickBooks 21 to QuickBooks 24, so the May 31,2024 date does not apply.

1) Does QuickBooks 24 R3 use QBDT2021

2) If not, what is the critical issue that is requiring an updated from R3 to R6 by June 17th?

3) What will stop working, if we do not upgrade by June 17th?

QuickBooks 24: Critical Alert June 17, 2024 Message

It's good to know you've upgraded from QuickBooks 2021 to QuickBooks 2024, @CWDPetrie.

I'm here to address your additional concerns about the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) release notes one at a time.

To answer your first question, we have R6_75 as the latest release for QBDT 2024 and R17_23 for QBDT 2021. Thus, the critical alert you're receiving reminds you of the update before June 17, 2024.

Please know that online services will be discontinued once you don't upgrade. Also, you'll not get the latest features and fixes of your QBDT.

Additionally, here are some resources for further information about the latest updates:

QuickBooks 24: Critical Alert June 17, 2024 Message

Updating to QB24 R6 resolved the Critical Error. However, during this there was no clear answer given why we had to upgrade from QB24 R3 to R6.

If there is something Critical that causes an update, it would be nice to know what the issue is instead of just saying you have to update.

QuickBooks 24: Critical Alert June 17, 2024 Message

I'm here to provide insights into the importance of updating your QuickBooks Desktop account and critical issues associated with the update, CWDPetrie.

QuickBooks Desktop doesn't have specific critical issues that require you to update. The updates are released to fix bugs, security, or compatibility issues with the software. It's essential to stay updated with the latest releases to prevent problems.

Updating also resolves minor issues that other users may have encountered, ensuring smooth functionality for your work and preventing similar problems.

Although QuickBooks Desktop encourages users to install updates, postponing them won't impact functionality. Your software will continue to operate as intended, given your subscription remains active and the product version is supported.

Furthermore, if you encounter any potential data issues, you can refer to the solutions in this article: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

You're always welcome in the QuickBooks Community should you have further questions about QBDT updates. I'll be here to lend a helping hand. Keep safe always.
