Welcome and thank you for reaching out to us here on the Community page, @deb43.
I appreciate you for trying the troubleshooting steps you've performed when trying to fix the error you're getting. For now, we can start by repairing your QuickBooks to refresh and fix any data damages while navigating or working with QuickBooks. Before doing the steps, please make sure to create a back up of your company file.
Here's how:
If that doesn't make a difference, I suggest following the general troubleshooting steps for unrecoverable in QuickBooks Desktop, laid out in this article.
Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm a post away to help. Have a good day!
This is Deb43 but QB would not let me use my same name again. Unfortunately running repair did not fix my issue. Also I only run QB on my Windows 10, nothing else, so no programs are interfering. Also, none of the examples in the article are what is happening to me. I cannot find my issue or the fatal error code on any Google search or other searches I have done. How can I be the only one who has had this error? Do I need to Reinstall QuickBooks, or would that be the same as the repair function?
Hello, deb545.
Please allow me to join the thread and help share information about the error you encounter. This error you've experienced is random and depends on the specific field you were in.
To isolate this case, I have other detailed steps to help you get clear with this error. You can uninstall and reinstall the QuickBooks. This will clean and fix the problem. I'll show you how.
Here's how to Uninstall QuickBooks Desktop:
Once done, uninstalling you can reinstall the QuickBooks Desktop again.
Before you uninstall the QuickBooks Desktop, you need to make sure you have your license number, the product year, and version.
However, if this didn't fix your issue, you can uninstall and manually rename the installation folders.
Here's how:
That's it. This should help you point in the right direction. Let me know if you have further questions. I'll be here to answer them.
So - I uninstalled and reinstalled and I STILL get the same error. I loaded one of my company files from before I used to get the error, and I STILL get the same error. I loaded one of QB's sample files and I STILL get the same error. How can I still get the same error with older files from before this started happening, and with the QB sample file, and after I have reinstalled QB from the download on the website? And to make matters worse, I tried the chat support to help me, and agreed there is a problem, but they said the will not help me without me paying money because I need level 2 support, and even though I just bought this program not to long ago and it's BROKEN, it is a standalone desktop license so obviously QB does not care about its small business owner customers who have broken software and expect them to pay if their software is defective to help them fix it. This does not seem very ethical to me. So every time I click on "Receive Payments" button, I get a fatal error and get kicked out. No other problems, just that.
Thanks for bringing this one to our attention, deb43.
I appreciate the time and effort you've spent with one of our chat support agents. I'll personally share your feedback with our Customer Support Team regarding this one. We'll be able to take action on improving our customer service.
I've checked here on our end and there's an ongoing investigation where customers encounter an unrecoverable error message when receiving payments in QuickBooks. Our engineers are still investigating what's causing this issue and working together for the permanent fix.
In this case, I'd suggest contacting our phone support agents. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and add you to the list of affected users.
Here's how:

Just as an FYI, I just purchased QuickBooks Pro 2020 - uninstalled 2019, and installed 2020. Still have the same problem.
Thanks for getting back to us, deb43.
This issue has been forwarded to our engineers for further investigation. Please reach out to our Customer Care Team, so we can add your company information to the list of affected users.

I have the same issue but also have it while opening company files. I've even created new company files and still get the same "Unrecoverable Error". I have done every "fix" on QB site as well as other blogs. I called QB support and they told me I needed them to fix my data files $200 each! I have six. They said my files were corrupted but how is a brand newly created file corrupted? I was going to buy 2020 and see if that helped and am glad to know it won't so I won't spend the money.
I'm at a loss.
I have the same issue plus get "Unrecoverable Error" when opening the desktop. I have done every "fix" on QB site plus some on other blogs. I created a new company file and it does the same thing. QB support told me my data files were corrupt and they needed to fix them at $200 each (I have six). How does a new company file get corrupted? My next move was to buy 2020 as you did but won't do that now (Thanks for the info).
I'm at a loss and cannot work at all because of this issue.
Thanks for posting to the Community, @kpmoose63.
I wanted to make sure that this is taken care of. A newly created file can be corrupted when the computer's antivirus is outdated. Also, if you're using a flash drive to store the backup data or files from QuickBooks, make sure that it is new and free from computer viruses.
There are lots of fixes that we can follow to resolve this error. Primarily, I'd suggest suppressing your QuickBooks Desktop. It will help us identify. It will help us identify if the file can keep up and running.
Here's how:
First, suppress the Desktop while starting QuickBooks.
Then suppress the Desktop while opening a Company File.
