Restore from a crashed computer HELP!!!!!

so my computer crashed. and while I do have a relatively recent backup, its not the latest, definitely missing last payroll and tax filings.  However, I do have a daily backup to the cloud of my computer including my QuickBooks folder.  Any possible way to restore my QuickBooks file to a new computer?

Make sure you have secured any file of QBW, QBB or QBM file. Install the license on your new machine and restore it.

Restore from a crashed computer HELP!!!!!

wow, that was a quick reply and truly appreciated.  I checked my cloud backup, tons of files but they do have those three - qbw dated 7/29/20, qbb dated 7/3/20 and qbm dated 12/21/06.  So when you say "restore", obviously the qbw is the latest - can you restore from that file?  There are also qbw.nd, qbw.tlg files with the 7/29 date.  Just want to be sure I'm moving everything to the new folder.  If you can outline a step by step, truly appreciate it

Restore from a crashed computer HELP!!!!!

Wow, truly appreciate the quick response considering how "desperate" I am to restore to a new computer.  Found the three files you listed - different dates

qbw - 7/29/20

qbb - 7/3/20

qbm - 12/21/06

But also found other files with a 7/29/20 date - qbw.nd and obw.tlg.  And also found a folder titled "QBBackupTemp....) with a 7.29/20 date having 2 files - qbw and qbw.dsn.

So just want to be clear on exactly what to do and how to restore as I assume I'm not restoring for the qbb file.

Do you have a file (i.e QBM) dated in year of 2006? Which QB Desktop year version did you have? It would be another issue if you are using an outdated version on Windows 8.1 or 10.

Find the file [name of the file].qbw, copy it to your local machine, open your QuickBooks and restore it.

Restore from a crashed computer HELP!!!!!

Hello there, @larrygaia.

I’m here with some insight regarding recovering missing or lost data in QuickBooks Desktop and restore it to your new computer.

QuickBooks has a feature called QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery (ADR) that can recover all or most of your data. They can do that by restoring lost transactions using your current Transaction Log file and a copy of your Company file or by restoring all but the last few hours of transactions with a copy of both your Company file and your Transaction Log file.

ADR is available in QuickBooks Pro, Premier and Enterprise Solutions for Windows but not in Accountant Editions. Make sure to update QuickBooks to the latest release before performing the steps found in this article: Recover lost data with QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery.

Another way to recover the working copy of your company file is to contact our Customer Care Team. They have the tools that can help retrieve your data and guide you in determining which file type needs to be restored in the new computer.

For your reference, I'm also adding these links below to learn more about the process of restoring data in QBDT together with the different types of files used in the system:

So sort of understand, not exactly sure how to restore the base file without a recent backup before I sue the adr.  Do you have a number for customer care as they want you to do it through quickbooks which I obviously don’t have installed.  Fortunately was able to retrieve my license and key for both quickbooks and payroll.

Restore from a crashed computer HELP!!!!!

Hi, can you help me with my concern, my computer suddenly crashed, and all my apps was deleted including my QB.  When I try to reinstall my QB it was said that I already exceeded the maximum users. As far as I know all the computers with QB already broken.  Is there any chance that I can still use my QB license? I really need it to restore my files.

Thank You

@Kesrty

Which QB Desktop year version do you have?

Can you access your CAMPS as the Primary Contact and find your license code there?

Restore from a crashed computer HELP!!!!!

Hi there, Kesrty.

I can see you're having issues accessing QuickBooks Desktop after reinstalling it. Let me help you out so you can get back on track.

If you receive the error "You have exceeded the maximum number of users", what you can do is reboot your system and then sync your license online.

Like this:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop as admin.
  2. Go to the Help menu.
  3. Select Manage My License then click Sync License Data Online.

After that, you should be able to restore the backup or open the company file. You can also verify your license information by logging in to Customer Account Management Portal (CAMPs) for QuickBooks Desktop.

Otherwise, if the issue persists, I recommend reaching our Support Team to help you check your product information and successfully reinstall your QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if you have other concerns or follow-up questions about installing QuickBooks Desktop. I'll be here to help. Have a good one!

Restore from a crashed computer HELP!!!!!

Hello there, Kesrty.

I understand your struggle with your QuickBooks license. Let me share some details about the error you've received.

The error message may be caused by:

  • More workstations are open than the purchased licenses.
  • A stuck log file requiring workstation reboot.
  • A damaged license verification file.
  • Damaged QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale installation.
  • Firewall or third-party internet security blocking client workstation access to the server.

To surpass this, ensure QuickBooks is closed on other workstations during installation. However, since all computers with QuickBooks are broken, I suggest contacting our Customer Support Team. This way, they can pull up your account securely and increase the number of times you can install the program.

Here's how:

  1. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help from the Help menu.
  2. Click Contact Us.

  3. Type in a short description of your concern, then Continue.
  4. Choose a way to connect with support.

For more details about our support availability, refer to this article: Contact Support.

After reinstalling, would you like to review your financial reports and reconcile your books? I can share these articles for guidance:
