restoring pro 2015 after installing pro 2020

Long story short.

I bought Pro 2020 in CD format (through Amazon) (even though Pro 2015 was working just fine!).

I backed up the 2015 file and saved it on my desktop.

I then installed 2020.

The very first step that happened was the new program uninstalled 2015.

But the backup was still on my desktop.

However, when I try to restore the 2015 in order to use it in 2020, IOW when I go to File and then to restore existing company (words to that effect) I am unable to do so.

restoring pro 2015 after installing pro 2020

Hi there, davethesuave.

I'm happy to provide some feedback on the upgrade process so you can transition to 2020 without any issues. Follow along below.

When you upgrade to a newer version of QBDT, you'll also need to upgrade the company files to continue from using them in a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop. Let's restore the backup copy of your company files to upgrade.

Here's how to upgrade your older company file:

  1. Let's ensure all users are logged out of your company file.
  2. Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Select Open or Restore Company if you don't have a company file open. You can also go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  4. Select Open a company file, then Next. If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), select Restore a backup copy and then Local backup.
  5. Browse your computer for your company file. You wrote down the file location in Step 1. Select it and then select Open.
  6. Sign in to your company file as an admin user.
  7. Before you upgrade, QuickBooks automatically creates a backup of your existing company file. You can select Change this default location to save the backup in a specific folder.
  8. Select Update Now to start the upgrade.
  9. When QuickBooks is finished, select Done.

For more details, please check this out: Upgrade your company files after switching to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
