Your presence here in the Community is highly appreciated, @KJW_85614. I've got a way to help you upgrade your account to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2024.

First, it's important to know that upgrading to QuickBooks Desktop 2024 and installing it on a new laptop requires a strategic approach to ensure a smooth transition.

If you're considering upgrading to QBDT 2024, you can review our Pricing page to compare prices.

To upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop 2024, you can do so by following these steps:

  1. Purchase your new version, then visit our QuickBooks Desktop Manager download page.
  2. Click Download to download a copy of QuickBooks Desktop Manager. If your computer prompts you, hit Run.
  3. Be sure to read the QuickBooks License Agreement.
  4. When you're ready, press Let's get started.
  5. Enter your license number and click Search. If you don't have a license, please provide your email address.
  6. Intuit will email you a one-time PIN.
  7. Choose an email address and hit Continue.
  8. Enter the one-time PIN, then press Submit.
  9. Find which version of QuickBooks you want and select its Install option.

2017

Really just asking if we should:

1.)  Upgrade to 2024 on the current computer, then export the company file.  Install 2024 on the new computer and import the company file.  or

2.)  Export the 2017 company file.  Install 2024 on the new computer and import the 2017 company file.

Updating your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) will depend on which subscription you choose, KJW_85614. Let me discuss this further.

If you have QBDT Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Mac Plus, or Enhanced Payroll, please note that new subscriptions for QBDT 2024 are no longer available in the United States, except for QBDT Enterprise products. The deadline for new subscriptions was September 30, 2024.

To ensure a smooth transition to the new version without compatibility issues, consider creating a backup file first. Then, go to QBDT Downloads & Updates to install the best plans for your needs. Afterward, you can restore your file on your new computer.

For more information, please refer to this article: Can't buy QuickBooks Desktop as a new US subscriber.

If in case you can't create or open a portable company file, you can refer to this material: Fix portable company file issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please let us know if you need further assistance as you upgrade your QBDT version, KJW_85614. We'll be here to help you out.
