Will QB 2014 data file convert to QB Desktop Mac 2019 easily?

I have a 2013  iMac that I have kept running at OS X 10.10 and QB for Mac 2014.  I had tried to upgrade the Mac to 10.12 but QB 2014 is not compatible.  I may try to upgrade to 10.11 and test again.

I only use QB for the most basic functions (invoicing and estimates).

QB Desktop for Mac 2019 is supposed to be compatible with 10.12 at a minimum.

I am afraid that buying a new Mac with 10.14 preinstalled and buying QB 2019 will result in my old QB 2014 data not being imported to QB 2019 seamlessly since I never upgraded to QB 2016.

Will QB 2014 data be imported to QB 2019 easily?  Does anything special have to be done with the old data file?

Will QB 2014 data file convert to QB Desktop Mac 2019 easily?

I'd like to begin by welcoming you to the Community, @timbercreek1.

I've got the information that you need when it comes to importing your data for QuickBooks Desktop 2014 to the 2019 version.

You're able to update your company automatically to 2019 if you have a QuickBooks for Mac 2014 file on the same computer. But before doing so, make sure that your Mac meets the system requirements.

Once verified, you just need to ensure the old file (2014) is saved in your Documents folder. Also, when updating the file, only the 2019 version should be open and running. Close any other programs that may intervene the conversion process.

To open the file, go to the File menu and select Open Company.

Another option is to back up the 2014 file and restore it to QB Mac 2019. Let me guide you through the steps:

Step 1: Create a back up copy.

  1. Launch QuickBooks for Mac 2014 (if you haven’t already).
  2. Go to QuickBooks.
  3. Choose Preferences.
  4. Select Backup.

Step 2: Restore the file.

  1. Locate the back up copy and double click the .dmg file.
  2. Drag the company file (with .qbXXXX extension) to the folder where you want to save the file.
  3. Drag the Attached Documents Library folder (if applicable) to the same folder as the QuickBooks company file.
  4. Click the copy of the company file saved on the desired location or go to File > Open Company.

Additionally, you may also download the latest version of QuickBooks from the Download Center. Or you can go directly to the Downloads & Updates page.

However, if you need further assistance with these steps, feel free to get in touch with our Customer Care Team. They have additional tools like screen-sharing that can walk you through the process.

These resources should help you update your file and get you up and running.

Of course, I got you covered if you have any other questions with this concern or with QuickBooks. Just let me know by leaving a reply below.

Thank you.  I will go ahead and purchase QB Desktop Mac 2019 and then follow your directions.  I also wanted to make sure I didn't have to go through QB 2016 too.
