My computer crashed and have since purchased a new computer. I've installed QBs Desktop Pro. Opened my company files (stored on a peripheral) and my personal files. While in the company files, after payroll updates were installed, QBs recommended I restart. When trying to open my company file I get this:
! You do not have sufficient permission to the specified folder. To use QBs in a multi-user environment, you must have read/write access and create/delete rights to the folder where the company file is stored.
Please ask your system administrator to give you permissions to the specified folder.
I got lost in the help area.
Any help from here is much appreciated.
Thanks
Do you store your files on a portable drive?
I do.
Try copying your file to your local drive and opening it only locally.
I don't see where it gives me that option. This occurs when I am in QBs and have 2 options as to opening a "company".....my company or my personal......opening my personal works fine. Trying to open my company file, again, after a payroll update and recommended restart, gets me that dialogue in my initial issue. Thanks for trying though.
I see you've been following QuickBooks' suggestion when accessing and setting up your company file, @dt. I can share various solutions to fix this error.
The error you've encountered may have been caused by a file located in a restricted location or because the folder permissions weren't set up properly. It can also be that the folder is saved in a protected location or is damaged.
Let's start by running the QuickBooks File Doctor, as this helps in resolving common errors. Before proceeding, you'll need to close QuickBooks.
Once done, follow the steps below to set QuickBooks to run as an administrator:
After that, move the company file to its default location. I'll show you how:
If the issue continues, I recommend performing Solutions 4 and 5 found in this link: Message: You do not have sufficient permissions to the specified folder.
I've included this reference to guide you through accessing folders in multi-user mode: Set up folder and Windows access permissions to share company files.
