Accountant having trouble opening .qbb file this year

Running QB for Mac Desktop 2024.  Had no problems exporting the company file for accountant last year.  This year, my same accountant is unable to open the .qbb file.  Also tried "Export to Windows", which also created a .qbb file that they were unable to open.  I did these after rebuilding the file, verifying, and then exporting.

Checked my log file and found thousands of entries with a CC: 42 code dating back several years.

Other threads on this topic are saying that transactions with special characters in the Memo field are the source of the problem, but this was NEVER a problem for 20 years until now.

Apparently, if I delete the special characters it will resolve the problem, but I can't afford to do this for thousands of transactions.

Is there an automated way to delete these characters from all the memo fields?

Accountant having trouble opening .qbb file this year

Hello, @HarishS.

As a QuickBooks user, I also want to ensure my accountant can successfully open the .qbb file so we can continue our business operations.

Currently, QuickBooks for Mac does not provide a built-in tool to automatically remove special characters from all memo fields. Since you have already attempted some troubleshooting steps, I recommend reaching out to our Live Support team for further assistance. Here’s how you can do that:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.
  2. Use the Search questions, keywords, or topics field to enter your query.
  3. You’ll see a list of related articles. If you don’t find the answers you need, select Contact Us in the help window.
