Adding a new inventory Part on QuickBooks Desktop

I have been using Quickbook Desktop with my MAC Computer for years with no problems.  I recently purchased a HP Computer and moved my Quickbooks to the HP.  My inventory parts transfered and I can used them with no problem BUT I can not add new inventory part #'s to my items.  When I enter the item it shows in the list but when you try to attach it to anything, Sales Receipt/Invoice or a bill it states that it is not in the item list and wants you to add it again.  Even if I add it again it still does not show.   PLEASE HELP!!

Adding a new inventory Part on QuickBooks Desktop

Thanks for dropping by the Community, sundowntruck.

I can see how important for your business to add items to transactions seamlessly. We’ll have to perform a few troubleshooting steps to get you back on track.

Before setting up your QuickBooks, make sure you have the necessary system requirements. This will ensure the software is compatible with your setup and will help avoid problems when using it. Check out the articles below to view the information.

If your computer meets the requirements, let's download the latest maintenance release. This will improve the program’s functionality and resolve any unexpected issues.

Here’s how:

  1. Tap the QuickBooks drop-down to select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
  2. If a newer version is available, choose Install Update.
  3. When prompted, click Install and Relaunch.

Once completed, QuickBooks for Mac will automatically open. From there, try creating any transaction and add the item. If you continue to get the same error, run the Verify and Rebuild Data Utilities.

These are built-in tools used to validate whether your file is still in good shape and fixes common errors. Perform the recommended steps in this article: Verify and rebuild data in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
