Buy nowAfter looking for the cause of my hard drive filling up, I find that I have 17 *.ADR files - each over 500MB created 1 day apart (recently, like the last 17 days). That is like 8 gigs of data. shouldn't there be only 1 such *.ADR file? Why is this happening? Is it related to Intuit Data Protect?

Hello there, @sibley. Let me provide some information regarding the QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery feature. I'll make sure we get to the bottom of the issue.
This feature will automatically make a local backup copy of your company file for you. Every 12 hours after the first ADR copy is made, QuickBooks will make another copy of the file except when you don't have your QuickBooks open. So you'll have two copies, one that is up to 12 hours old and the other one is up to 24. Older copies are then deleted.
Did you have any changes last 17 days ago? This information will help me narrow down why it's keeping all your ADR copies for each day.
I look forward to hearing back from you and troubleshooting further!
