This concern arises when you're not using QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Enterprise, Daryl. This means certain features, such as Advanced Inventory, can't be accessible or serviceable in this QBDT 2020 Pro version. If you are using QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise, I'll walk you through how to Turn on Advanced Inventory. Here's How:

  1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
  2. On the left pane, choose Items & Inventory then go to the Company Preferences tab.
  3. Check the Inventory and Purchase Orders are Active box.
  4. Select the Advanced Inventory Settings button. If the button is grayed out even though you have purchased the feature, you will need to sync license data online so that QuickBooks recognizes it.
    1. In QuickBooks, select Help then Manage my License, and then Sync License Data Online.
    2. Check that Advanced Inventory Settings is no longer grayed out.
    3. Close and re-open the QuickBooks program.

For more details, check this article to enable you to use this feature: Turn on Advanced Inventory.

If you ever change your mind, you can refer to these articles for detailed instructions on the process of upgrading and installing the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop

Please inform me of the outcome once you have completed the steps in QBDT. I want to ensure your issue is thoroughly resolved, and I'm here to offer additional assistance if needed. Have a wonderful rest of the week!

Hello there, Daryl. I'm here to guide you in upgrading to the Enterprise version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Before upgrading, it’s important to note that the Enterprise version of QuickBooks is now subscription-based. This means that instead of a one-time purchase, users must pay a recurring subscription fee.

To begin, please check the pricing details in this article: QuickBooks Enterprise Pricing. Once you've reviewed the options, click the Buy online button and select the details that best meet your needs. If you have any questions, you can contact the phone number at the top right of the page for additional assistance.

Now, let’s move on to upgrading to QBDT Enterprise. First, ensure that your computer and server meet the necessary system requirements and that you have installed the program from a trusted source:

Next, follow step 3 of this article for guidance on moving your company data from Pro to Enterprise: Upgrade to QuickBooks Enterprise from Desktop Pro/Premier.

If you need help during the upgrade process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team. Just be mindful of their support hours to avoid any inconvenience.

Moreover, if you'd like to try out the features before committing, you can install the trial version by following this article Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, you can refer to this article about managing your barcode: Set up and use barcode scanning in QuickBooks Desktop.

What do you mean with "greyed out"? As I know the feature is only available in Enterprise, not Pro. Can you share the screenshot? Click the camera icon on the menu to insert image here.

Okay, That makes sense.  All i want to do is create and print barcodes for products that do not have them.

How easy is it to upgrade to a enterprise version. I do not want to go with online quickbooks if i do not have to.

Thanks
